Thursday, April 16, 2009. Semana Santa in Ancash. April 15, 2009. We took a one day visit to a glacial lake, which was gorgeous. We took a refreshing dip in the freezing cold water as is Peace Corps Ancash tradition. Then we stopped at a town called Yungay, which was destroyed by a mudslide caused by an earthquake in 1970. Thursday, April 16, 2009. March 17, 2009. Our friend and fellow Peace Corps volunteer Ken visited us for the day in Tembladera. He is the volunteer closest to us in the department of Cajamarca at about 3 hours distance by bus. We went to nearby archaeological sites, did some rock climbing, visited my shrimp farm and caught some dinner, and then went back to town where Ken showed off his culinary skills preparing a shrimp pasta for us all. This past weekend the volunteers in my department of Cajamarca put on Camp ALMA (Actividades de Liderazgo para Mujeres Adolescentes/Leadership Activities for Young Women). Volunteers from all over the department had the opportunity to bring youth from their communities to participate in the event.

Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Some Sissies Come to Play. First of all, look how cute this little guy is. Now that we've cleared that up, Meg and Natalie and Bri came to our house for a lot of days! It was nice to throw some happiness and fun in with all the insanity. Natalie and the kids got along pretty darn well. I can't believe how big she's getting! Anyway, we took pics! Sunday, May 19, 2013. Nate had his Colon removed on April 22nd. As far as surgeries go, it was a smashing success. Considering how sick Nate has been this past year, his quick recovery has truly been a miracle. His surgery was on a Monday and the surgeon told us he would likely go home the following Friday. B&Bs/pensions are cheap and lovely places to stay. Try the food, not the water. Have extra batteries on hand. Talk with the locals. Talk with the foreigners. Always close your tent when heading out for a while. If you see somewhere you’d like to go from a train window (regardless of plans), just get off. Last Day in Paris.
