Domingo, 2 de novembro de 2008. EM CONSTRUÇÃO. AGUARDEM! Minhas filhas Ana Laura e Ana Letícia, gêmeas univitelinas, nasceram em 02/07/2001 e eram super-saudáveis. Os processos de sentar, engatinhar e andar foi tudo normal. Com aproximadamente três anos e meio notamos que as outras crianças da idade delas já falavam e, embora Laura e Letícia entendesse tudo, elas não conseguiam formar frases, apenas falavam o último nome da frase que tentavam dizer. Com o tempo, as crianças afectadas sofrem uma degradação mental, crises de epilepsia e perda progressiva das faculdades visuais e motoras. Mais tarde ou mais cedo, as crianças com a Doença de Batten ficam cegas, confinadas a uma cama e impossibilitadas de comunicar, sendo que, actualmente a doença é sempre fatal.
