Sarah's Vietnam Adventure: October 2010
http://sarahsvietnamadventure.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 25, 2010. One of the great things about being a foreign volunteer living in a relatively small Vietnamese city is that I get the opportunity to be a part of a variety of different and unique activities on a regular basis. It took quite awhile to prepare everything and it was a little strange having the camera crew filming our every move from peeling a shrimp to frying the spring rolls in the oil. Not to mention the fact that we were all asked to wear aprons and chef hats, complete wit...

Saturday, July 17, 2010. Work Trip in the Northern Provinces. I was asked to tag along on the trip to provide advice to VVAF on the proposed plans based on my business background. I was excited to participate and to have an opportunity to travel outside of the city to see rural Vietnamese life, but I was a little unsure as to what to expect. Hope Center Trip to the Beach. About four times a year the Hope Center employees take a break from sowing garments and constructing handicrafts to participate in a c...

The Mind Numbing Ponderings Of A Pulpit Preacher. Blessed Are the Cheese Makers. Allow me to use parody to explain a very important point. Imagine, if you will, the scene at the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus is speaking to hundreds, maybe thousands, of people. Some strain their ears to her what Christ is saying. Now imagine an elderly lady who is hard of hearing and a philosopher who is standing next to her. The scene goes like this. Jesus: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

The Mind Numbing Ponderings Of A Pulpit Preacher. Single Minded or Single Blinded:. When I first started in the ministry I had a difficult time finding a church that wanted to work with a “single guy”. I didn’t think much of it at the time until I started really reading the ads for preachers in greater detail. Almost every one of the ads listed what they considered the qualifications of a. Minister. Almost without fail and at the top of the list “MUST BE MARRIED”. Enjoy and be enlightened. I am heartbrok...

mikka-bozu: August 2009
http://mikka-bozu.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
The word "mikka-bozu" comes from Japanese. It means "quitting anything soon" (as in "after three days"- mikka means three days). But I don't see it like this. More like a butterfly, going from one flower to another and eventually going back to the first one. Follow me in my never-ending quest. Saturday, August 29, 2009. The following was written for the AFWJ Journal, the one that I am volunteering at every other month until March next year. Strong interests and related studies have included:. Mainly with...

Wednesday, August 18, 2010. Taking Success in the Small Things. Before I left the US for this adventure in Vietnam, I asked those in my life who I greatly respect and who have had international work experience, what I could expect during my time overseas. I received a lot of great advice, but the message I kept hearing repeatedly was: "take success in the small things". I know that there will be more challenges around the corner, but I think the challenges I have already experienced as well as those I wi...
