IUCN Red list status: Near Threatened. This was the first Albatross I saw on a pelagic trip, and was the most numerous. It is far less common off the East coast, where Indian Yellow-nosed is the most common species.

I first saw these dynamic pelagic birds on a two day trip out of Cape Town. Another opportunity to get out to sea off Richards Bay saw us encountering several of these Pterodroma Petrels as well as a few of their Great-winged cousins. Now that we're running regular Durban pelagics, we've started picking them up there too, with sightings in August 2014 and July 2015.

IUCN Red list status: Least concern. Snowy Egrets are the common egrets in Peru. I have seen loads of them there, photographed them, even got one of my photos in the Roberts app. I was deep in concentration doing costings, getting out quotes and lashing suppliers for messing us around, when a Whatsapp conversation started up, ping-ping-ping-ping. What? And it's "just" an egret.).

Tuesday, April 13, 2010. A colleague has recently been assisting sunflower farmers in the vicinity with shooting of crop-raiding birds. The target species is Speckled pigeons, of which there are tens of thousands in the fields. Of note is his reports of large numbers of Yellow-throated Sandgrouse utilizing the fields. He has regularly been seeing big flocks taking off in front of him. With winter approaching, sightings of the Sandgrouse should improve nicely, so keep your eyes peeled when in the area.

This has only happened once before, prior to me finding the "source" of the stream. Exactly 2km down the road, a small clump of buildings can be seen on your left (South) next to the road (GPS S25*22.671' E 27*05.984'). A big green sign says HYDROPONICS FARM.
