Nina's Nature Diary. The Natural World as I See It. October 5, 2014. Yesterday while walking in the woods adjacent to the park, we came upon a fallen tree bedecked with a spectacular orange fungus. I didn’t have my camera, but I went back today and took some pictures. I’ve tentatively identified it as “chicken of the woods”, aka “crab of the woods”, scientific name. Sunday, April 21, 2013. Our yard is bursting with color! The azaleas and dogwood in our yard are in full bloom! We still need to freshen the pine straw,. But the flowers are gorgeous! Don't you just love the lacey look of dogwood? These azaleas are huge! The purple bushes are formosa azaleas. My hosta that the deer ate was traumatized for a couple of years,.
