Ross Back Sands, Northumberland. Ross Back Sands is a remote beach between Holy Island and Budle Bay, reached by a walk of about a mile along a footpath from the nearest (small) parking place at Ross. This is a superb beach with distant views of two castles - Bamburgh Castle to the south and Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island to the north. Goswick Sands, Northumberland. Goswick Sands on the North Northumberland Coast is a vast stretch of beach at low tide that really has to be visited to appreciate the scale of the place. The beach was once used as a weapons range during the second world war and warning signs are in place about the possibility of unexploaded bombs. The beach is very popular with families in summer and a boat launching ramp is still used by a few fishing cobles. The lifeboat station is still active with an inshore lifeboat based there. It's map name is Whitley Sands and is a large beach that stretches from the main promenade almost as far as St. Mary's Island. In years gone by this beach would have been jam packed with holiday makers in summer.
