9 February, 2015. In Sucre We Sit Up Straight. From Private Room to Private Room in a Taxi – What Is This Backpacking Thing? Potosi attracts South America travellers because of its silver mine located inside a hill looking over the city. Long ago, Potosi’s silver made it one of the wealthiest cities in Latin America, but nowadays, like the rest of Bolivia, it is desperately poor. 8221; You know you need to change your phone when a Bolivian miner makes fun of it. 4) Miners suffer brutal accidents when at ...

3 September, 2014. 8230;and we’ve already decided we need a holiday. Spontaneous trip to La Serena it is! But more on that later. Amongst my many dislikes, a couple of artists (photographers in this case) that I did like were Jose Carlos Orrillo and Monica Bengoa. I think I may return here…. 1) Our front door is impossible to open. Our landlady is usually in, but when she wasn’t we were outside battling with the various locks on the door for a long time, desperate for warmth and wi-fi. 3 September, 2014.

All posts by linakatwala. 13 February, 2015. Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot. It’s Just a Ride. Our plan for our first morning in the desert was to hire bikes and cycle down to a place called Quebrada del Diablo. It was a beautiful morning, bike hire was cheap and it would be a unique experience. There was only one problem. I hadn’t ridden a bike in over 10 years. Get on the pavement you absolute moron.’ I don’t think trying to defend myself would have been a good idea. Walking on the Moon. On a Horse With No Name.
Week #18 | notesfromalongcountry
https://notesfromalongcountry.wordpress.com/2015/01/30/week-18
30 January, 2015. The Crossing – #1. On the bus itself were a French couple and their havoc-wreaking three young children. They were a family of travellers who had decided to uproot and venture around the globe, educating their children along the way. I admire the couple for what they were doing, but surely the kids wouldn’t be able to trek Torres del Paine? Aladdin Trousers, a Giant Moustache and a Tiny Puppy. A Long, Beautiful South American Highway and a Giant Bit of Ice. And did a 1-kilometre hike to...

30 January, 2015. Celebrations and Commiserations – End of the Teen Era? I happened to see the price sticker which showed it was about 1 from Jumbo the supermarket but still, it’s the thought that counts! Anyone for an Apricot Cereal Bar? Feeling (slightly) like an Actual Teacher. I did experience some nervous outbreaks, however. My personal favourite was when a girl had to describe a photo of Machu Picchu and broke into laughter because there were two llamas in the photo that looked like they were a...

The Life of a European Jet-setter. Because travelling through Europe after Uni is far more fun than staying in Britain! Heidi, Yodelling and Home Comforts. So it has been two weeks since my last entry which, at least, means that this time I have a backlog of stories and observations and this time a treat as the girls discovered Photobooth on my computer – queue a series of interesting faces preserved for posterity on my computer! The Life of a European Jet-setter. Because travelling through Europe after Uni is far more fun than staying in Britain! Halloween, Turning 23 and a pilgrimage to Montreux. Now, Halloween isn’t exactly celebrated much here like it is in the UK and US and, being practically. The next big event of the last two weeks, as the title of this post suggests, was me becoming one. Getting a Birthday card from my dog and the two cats was a rather humorous surprise… even if the. The Life of a European Jet-setter. Because travelling through Europe after Uni is far more fun than staying in Britain! Thank God for Half Term Holidays! Another two non-stop weeks have gone by and I have now been in Switzerland for 2 full months. I’m 2 weeks away from my 23rd birthday and 8 weeks away from coming home for christmas. How time flies! Thank heavens, then, that I was flying to Bordeaux on Saturday morning! A whole week away from children was exactly what I needed! Hopefully i’ll be ab...

The Life of a European Jet-setter. Because travelling through Europe after Uni is far more fun than staying in Britain! Winter is finally here! It has been a long time since my last update and I must apologise for my neglect of this blog! Such a lot has been going on in the last couple of months from Swiss bureaucracy to traveling and forays into journalism (more on this later)! The Life of a European Jet-setter. Because travelling through Europe after Uni is far more fun than staying in Britain! Nocturnal creeps, Fondue and a Language Assistant Reunion (Well, sort-of). Friday night went from being what was promised to be a ‘we’re just having a fondue dinner and then going home – nothing crazy’ to buying alcohol at an off-licence and me coming home at 2.20 in the morning. If this was a university friday night then. The famous Jet d’Eau at night. Hôtel de Ville, Lausanne. If anyt...

Bern: The Accidental Capital City | The Life of a European Jet-setter
https://luciannamharrison.wordpress.com/2014/11/18/bern-the-accidental-capital-city
The Life of a European Jet-setter. Because travelling through Europe after Uni is far more fun than staying in Britain! Bern: The Accidental Capital City. For the first time since being here I have properly gone somewhere for the weekend, and that somewhere is the relatively little-known city of Bern… and apparently Switzerland’s Capital. Having now been there for the weekend I can see why very few people are aware of the significance of the city in Switzerland. Perhaps the most important figure to have ...

Notes from a library
Notes from a library. Sunday, January 6, 2008. My first project of the year - making gocks (goth sock puppets) with the middle school crowd that invades the library every day after school. I think it will be fun, but I wonder how that blase, disaffected group will see it. I haven't been able to find any actual instructions, but the name seems to speak for itself. Black socks, and lots of hardware, to start with. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

A new incarnation
Sunday, March 03, 2013. Senseless dreams - or are they? I thought about this psychic I'd seen not long ago. One of the first things she'd said to me was that I'm a person who has intense and vivid dreams. Saturday, August 11, 2012. This tree sort of reminded me of that story. Thursday, April 08, 2010. The best purchase I ever made in my life was a pair of boots I bought in Seattle. If it wasn't for those I'd have been home-bound and hungry for large parts of the season! Friday, November 27, 2009.
