I could never fully comprehend how it is that patients, faced with life-altering diagnoses, refer to their condition, status, situation, as "a gift". I finally get it. So thank you, arthritic eroded hip. You're "the gift" that keeps on giving. September 29, 2010 at 9:32 AM. September 29, 2010 at 12:44 PM.

Notes From A True Hipster. A daily chronicle leading up to my total hip replacement surgery, and beyond. There was an error in this gadget. Sunday, September 26, 2010. Hip Blog Day Three. Today I found a website. That calculates the number of days between specific dates. My hip (in fact, my entire skeletal structure) and I have cohabitated for 20,700 days. Seven days a week, 52 weeks a year. This is equal to exactly 56 years, 8 months, and 2 days. It's been a good "run". The hip's got ten days left.

ActorHubBub: March 2013
http://actorhubbub.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 28, 2013. Who am I this time? I never know exactly where this juggling act will take me. Which juggling act? The one for which my Job Description makes use of numerous slashes. But there is no concrete offer yet, no plan in place. Acting has been the constant, surprisingly enough. It's where it...

Tuesday, May 18, 2010. A Night at the "Norties". Towards the very end of the 2 hour Elliot Norton Awards ceremony on Monday night, MC Joyce Kulhawik referred to the awards as "the Norties". An actress near me bristled slightly, but I thought it was a great way to sum up the evening, a cross between reverent and eclectic, celebrating the 2009-2010 Boston theater season. Notes From a Tiny Island
Notes From a Tiny Island. Well they sent Joe McKenzie to an island deep in the Pacific. This is what can be hesitantly called the result. Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Both the news itself and its delivery represented precisely the kind of casual incompetence that I had grown used to, even fond of, a year earlier. Chuuk is an isolated archipelago about 1800 kilometres North East of New Guinea and is the most populous state in the Federated States of Micronesia. I had lived on the main island of Weno for ten ...
Notes From Atlanta
Wednesday, September 22, 2004. Consumers screwed in Texas. On his first day as governor of Texas, George W. Bush declared that limiting lawsuits was an "emergency issue" for his state. We must put a stop to the frivolous and junk lawsuits which clog our courts," he said in January 1995, a popular line he has repeated often since then. The impact has been felt by home buyers such as Mary and Keith Cohn, whose elegant new residence in this well-off Houston suburb came with a leaky roof that led to rotting ...

Notes from a treedweller
Notes from a treedweller. An Austin arborist's view of trees. Wednesday, August 3, 2011. People often ask to have the "suckers" removed from trees. The problem starts with the name itself. Looks good to some, but weakens trees. Everyone has a different opinion about how far this should go, of course, but the basic idea is the same. At its worst, this practice is sometimes called "lion-tailing" or "poodle-dogging" because of the puff of green leaves at the end of long, bare poles. Cut one, get several.

Notes From A Tunnel
Saturday, 5 November 2016. Enemies of the people". Throughout the Brexit campaign, a central slogan was that UK should get power back to its institutions: our Courts and our Parliament to decide on our matters, independently of Brussels influence(s). However, those most vocal about our Courts and our Parliament deciding about our matters were screaming in vocal, printed and electronic form within minutes of the judgement. Fascists are using the word "democracy" so often in their rhetoric. The self-co...
