Our family's Hebridean adventure. June 30, 2015. July 1, 2015. Its been a busy time settling in up here so apologies for not keeping more up to date with the blog! There have been times to relax in between all the work thank goodness. The weather has not been fabulous along the Atlantic Coast this summer thus far (though I’m told from tomorrow it will improve and we’re in for a heat wave)! We have had enough sun to do some amazing trips out and about though. I hope I’ll update again very soon ̵...

Our family's Hebridean adventure. We’re still here! May 25, 2015. May 29, 2015. This is not an exhaustive list – am sure I’ll remember something important as soo as we leave the wifi cafe)! Arthur thinks it’s wonderful! On top of this the bluebells and primroses are still going strong and really are the most extensive displays I think I’ve ever seen. Anyway so many stories to tell but I think that’s about enough for now! Bridgend Woods: full of the most glorious bluebells and just down the road from us.

Our family's Hebridean adventure. So this is us:. The three of us. Andrew: teacher, endurance runner, political commentator (this mainly involves buying copies of The Guardian and leaving them in unread piles around the house), swimmer and tennis player. Soon to be part time house husband and part time Hebridean teacher (keep your fingers crossed the GTCS agree to let him in). 262 miles in 3hrs 41 and looked like he’d been for a quick jog round the park! Bunny cuddles with Tiger. And last, but very much ...

Our family's Hebridean adventure. May 29, 2015. As I lie in my on call room in the island hospital and hack in to the surgery’s wifi downstairs I find myself ruminating on the vagaries of island life. This has been a week of settling in at work and connecting up our home to the outside world. Work has been great. You can’t beat leaving the house In the morning to views like this:. Connecting the house up to the outside world has been a bit more of a challenge than expected however. We’re still here!

Notes from a treedweller
Notes from a treedweller. An Austin arborist's view of trees. Wednesday, August 3, 2011. People often ask to have the "suckers" removed from trees. The problem starts with the name itself. Looks good to some, but weakens trees. Everyone has a different opinion about how far this should go, of course, but the basic idea is the same. At its worst, this practice is sometimes called "lion-tailing" or "poodle-dogging" because of the puff of green leaves at the end of long, bare poles. Cut one, get several.

Notes From A Tunnel
Saturday, 5 November 2016. Enemies of the people". Throughout the Brexit campaign, a central slogan was that UK should get power back to its institutions: our Courts and our Parliament to decide on our matters, independently of Brussels influence(s). However, those most vocal about our Courts and our Parliament deciding about our matters were screaming in vocal, printed and electronic form within minutes of the judgement. Fascists are using the word "democracy" so often in their rhetoric. The self-co...
