December 16, 2014. Okay, right. Meeting over. Went so well. Now sitting in the Quarter waiting for my next meeting. So, while I wait I’ll try to finish explaining everything. What seemed like a short engagement was a long one. I asked them why they did this, why they didn’t want to get all their friends involved? Rich and hi...

Notes from the Intern. Thoughts on literature…. In Search of New Writing. Slush Pile of Shame. Thoughts on literature…. Since I’ll be working in publishing, I thought it would be a good idea to use this section to impart some of my gained wisdom. As I’m predominately reviewing chick lit, here’s a really great website for all you chick lit fans. The Independent: The Great Chick Lit Conspiracy. The Guardian: Rebuttal to the Great Chick Lit Debate. Bobbie Faye’s Very (very, very, very) Bad Day. I can’t say ...

Notes from the Intern. Thoughts on literature…. In Search of New Writing. Slush Pile of Shame. Putting life into action →. New job in a new world of publishing. December 16, 2014. It would actually be best if I worked backwards in time. Tell you where I am now and how I got here. Because I am working for London and Paris. I met with London on Thursday and Friday, and spent a marathon two days getting me up to spread on everything they have been building over the next couple of months. What is it we do?

Notes from the Intern. Thoughts on literature…. In Search of New Writing. Slush Pile of Shame. Newer posts →. Keeping my mind off work. December 5, 2014. Came into work and immediately received a phone call. It was RobotPA, she was asking if I could meet her and Dickie at 3pm at an office in the city centre. I’m quite nervous. She didn’t explain who Dickie was, just expected me to know. Did everyone but me know that Giles didn’t own the Agency? Notes from the Intern - The New Agency. December 4, 2014.

A charity intern in Glasgow: December 2010

http://interninglasgow.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

A charity intern in Glasgow. Friday, 24 December 2010. In a New York minute. There's a song by The Eagles that goes "In a New York minute, everything can change.". That pretty much describes the moment in the car, with my mum, when I suddenly decided that acting wasn't for me and I wanted to do something else. After a major freakout, having wanted to act since I played Cinderella in Year 2, I decided Events Management was for me. And best of all I know I'm helping people while furthering my career. So th...

A charity intern in Glasgow. Thursday, 16 December 2010. Run around the Shops/Run for Oxfam. Did you know that the average woman will walk more than a marathon when Xmas shopping? And that she will burn more calories? I didn't know that either until I started thinking about ways I can show potential runners that a marathon isn't out of reach. You just sometimes have to think about it in a different way. The week before had been filled with stress. Will the snow stop us getting there? Running, Oxfam Edinb...

A charity intern in Glasgow: Update - #TwitterJobChallenge

http://interninglasgow.blogspot.com/2011/04/update-twitterjobchallenge.html

A charity intern in Glasgow. Thursday, 14 April 2011. On Tuesday I began the #TwitterJobChallenge as set by the Guardian. The idea was simple - I had to tweet 5 companies/charities that I would like to work for and see what response I got. Below are the tweets that I sent:. The things they have in common are:. They have a good online presence. They are in or work with the Third Sector, Sport or Theatre. A job with them would give me an opportunity to be creative, fundraise or grow the company/charity.

A charity intern in Glasgow: Did you see John? Centre Point's advertising campaign is fantastic

A charity intern in Glasgow. Sunday, 27 March 2011. Did you see John? Centre Point's advertising campaign is fantastic. While flicking through the Big Issue this week I saw Centre Point's fundraising advert. The above is a screen shot of their landing page www.centrepointroom.org.uk/john38. Have a look on page 30. Did you see him? Or did you look past him and carry on with your life? The advert is good because:. It highlights the invisibility of the homeless in our society. It could be even better if:.

A charity intern in Glasgow: Being an Intern

http://interninglasgow.blogspot.com/p/being-intern.html

A charity intern in Glasgow. Being an Intern is a bit of a controversial subject at the moment. It's something I hadn't thought I would end up doing after leaving uni but wrongly or rightly they are becoming more common. Personally, I know I'm very lucky to be in the position of having family in Glasgow and having my parents to help out. Otherwise I would be trying to find many smaller placements punctuated by bar jobs. Interns 'should be paid £2.50-an-hour training wage'. When internships pay off. I am ...

http://interninglasgow.blogspot.com/p/about-me.html

A charity intern in Glasgow. I am currently interning at Oxfam Scotland as the Edinburgh Marathon Festival Project Manager. I graduated from University last September and took an internship to help cement what I would like to do for a career. I've decided that a role that encompasses marketing and events management is for me. I'm blogging along the way to reinforce what I'm learning - and because I have lots of opinions. I'm living in Glasgow and have fallen in love with the city. Did you see John? Notes...

A charity intern in Glasgow: Glasgow Life

http://interninglasgow.blogspot.com/p/glasgow-life.html

A charity intern in Glasgow. I've been in Glasgow a while now so thought I would share my favourite places. In the West End is amazing! I've gone here a few times for lunch and dinner. It's a very cool venue and is based on the speakeasies in the 1920s. The decor is dark and dramatic and they play old movies all day/night. They also do an afternoon tea but with a twist. Instead of tea in your teapot there is martini. Has a Cinema, 2 bars, a cafe and a restaurant. They serve very good cosmopolitans. Subsc...

http://interninglasgow.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

A charity intern in Glasgow. Monday, 24 January 2011. Can Charities Exploit a Different Social Media? I recently read an article in "Marketing Week". Yet a lot of the answers seem to only focus on Facebook and Twitter and ignore other methods. Technology is exciting isn't it! Off to update my Twitter and Facebook - still the best ways to share a link. Links to this post. Running, Oxfam Fundraising. Sunday, 16 January 2011. I have had a crazy week! Notes from the Idiot Child

Notes from the Idiot Child. A Blog about Books and Bob. Friday, November 3, 2017. I Came to Bury: Bob Dylan in Salt Lake City, 2017. But here's the thing: the overall effect of hearing Dylan's current show, these sad ballads, balanced with fierce and playful rock and roll, is to make the listener feel poignantly, wonderfully alive. Salt Lake City was my 50. Would you expect to understand Lessing or Ishiguro or Neruda, having read only one book out of twenty? After “Things Have Changed,” perfo...But it ai...

notesfromtheisleofman | Impressions of life on the Isle of Man and Beyond

Impressions of life on the Isle of Man and Beyond. February 6, 2012. This blog’s turning into a rant. Have you been caught speeding recently? I’m not saying I didn’t learn anything. In fact, having learnt to drive and passed my test in France, my knowledge of some areas of the English highway code was hazy. But four hours? OK, now I am Speed Aware. I’ve done the course so I don’t care. I’ve done my bit, paid my dues. And paid my eighty-five pounds too. So hold your horses, here I come. January 23, 2012.
