Notes from the Slow Lane

Notes from the Slow Lane. Sunday, 31 January 2016. January in the garden. Not the world's greatest photograph). My other big garden excitement is a compost bin. Never did I think I would get so excited by compost! Shortly after Christmas my dad arrived at the door with a mystery piece of plastic - which turned out to be the hatch cover for the compost bin and an early birthday present. He completed the present with a bagful of his compost, complete with worms, to get me started. Monday, 18 January 2016.

Notes from the Slow Lane: The Year in Books: April

http://notesfromtheslowlane.blogspot.com/2015/04/the-year-in-books-april.html

Notes from the Slow Lane. Thursday, 30 April 2015. The Year in Books: April. Finally I am up to date - just about! This month's book is another I have listened to while knitting, Doctor Thorne. I would heartily recommend the Barchester Chronicles. Which is well worth a listen. Audio books from Audible are, incidentally, far cheaper if bought using their credits system. In the meantime I am making a start on the fourth novel in the series, Framley Parsonage. The year in books. 1 May 2015 at 22:33. Its qui...

http://notesfromtheslowlane.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Notes from the Slow Lane. Wednesday, 18 February 2015. So it's been over a month and I have managed to miss last month's book, though it could be rather dull, I have mostly read technical booklets lately, on thrilling subjects like how to work the oven or what insurance covers. But I thought an update was long overdue. And "what am I doing here? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I'm 31, live in south London, have ME, fibromyalgia and depression, follow Jesus, love knitting and making things. This Is Not My Home.

Notes from the Slow Lane: December 2014

http://notesfromtheslowlane.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Notes from the Slow Lane. Thursday, 25 December 2014. This was the moment when Before. Turned into After, and the future's. Uninvented timekeepers presented arms. This was the moment when nothing. Happened. Only dull peace. Sprawled boringly over the earth. This was the moment when even energetic Romans. Could find nothing better to do. Than counting heads in remote provinces. And this was the moment. When a few farm workers and three. Members of an obscure Persian sect. Into the kingdom of heaven. By Ma...

Notes from the Slow Lane: Where next?

http://notesfromtheslowlane.blogspot.com/2015/05/where-next.html

Notes from the Slow Lane. Thursday, 14 May 2015. It is not that I hate the Conservatives per se. I am filled with dread of what £12 billion of welfare cuts are going to mean to my community, to the disabled, none of whom chose their circumstances, what is going to happen? How are we to live? What is it going to mean for the increasing numbers of children growing up in poverty? How can I get involved and fight and campaign? I may head back to the Psalms, it feels like a time for lament. Etc My own take on...

This Is Not My Home: April 2013

http://beckie-a.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

This Is Not My Home. Friday, April 12, 2013. Crispy crust, chewy sourdough middle, delicious! Though I say so myself). 125g strong white bread flour. Olive oil, for kneading. 1 Mix salt, flours and starter together in a large bowl. 2 Slowly add water - starting with 180ml, and gradually kneading in additional water until you have a slack dough - it will be quite sticky. 3 Turn dough out onto an oiled. 4 Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. 10 Transfer the loaves to baking shee...

This Is Not My Home: Blueberry and Amaretti Trifle Cupcakes - Home Sweet Home Bake Along (21/100)

http://beckie-a.blogspot.com/2015/04/blueberry-and-amaretti-trifle-cupcakes.html

This Is Not My Home. Saturday, April 04, 2015. Blueberry and Amaretti Trifle Cupcakes - Home Sweet Home Bake Along (21/100). Apart from being unseasonal (blueberry season is not for a wee while yet), these turned out to be an excellent cupcake for this weekend. I have been to visit Mama and Papa. Papa is a fan of cake in most manifestations, but a blueberry muffin, with a bit of an homage to trifle and with just a hint of almond seems to have gone down well. 70g unsalted butter, at room temperature.

This Is Not My Home. Sunday, April 19, 2015. Mint Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies - Home Sweet Home Bake Along (23/100). These are cute, crumbly, cookies, with a little pools of ganache in their centres. A nice simple bake, that can b. E thrown together quickly and easily. To make them even easier, the thumbprint and ganache could be omitted - one of my cookies disintigrated in transfer from baking sheet to wire rack, so I consumed the evidence, and can confirm the plain cookie was rather pleasant. Very cut...

This Is Not My Home. Sunday, April 26, 2015. Candy Bar Pie - - Home Sweet Home Bake Along (24/100). Things you learn from baking through a book: 1) The author's penchant for certain foods - Home Sweet Home indicates Tarek Malouf is probably a fan of nuts. Peanuts particularly. 2) That some of the recipes are take-offs or variations on other recipes in the book - here the "Candy Bar Pie" is another peanut butter cheesecake - this time without the gelatine, and baked. 230g full fat cream cheese. 140g crunc...

As I stand up to pick up my son from his high chair, an older lady sitting next to me with her brother (as I later found out) looked at me and says “you’re right in the thick of it”. Notes From The Snug. Prose, Ponderings and Simple Pleasures. This is pretty much an online notebook, full of all the scraps and scribblings that I collect over the years – the bits and pieces of writing that I don’t really know what to do with but, having created, feel compelled to keep (I’m a terrible hoarder, I’m afraid). I’ve sorted everything into rough categories (listed down the right-hand side) so there is at least a. Bit of organisation among the chaos! My favourite categories are:. You are comme...
