Offa's Dyke Footpath

Day 7 - Knighton to Forden. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty and for good reason. You have around seven steep climbs and descents to undertake. Exhausting! The journey today is not an easy one however you will feel a great achievement at the end of the day and also if you didnt have sore joints before this day began you will from this point onwards. I have heard the term switch back however I didnt quite comprehend the meaning of the term (switchback). Roughly defined it means: Pain!

Day 6 - Kington to Knighton. This is the best part to see the dyke itself. It stays with you most of the day. A very pleasant walk with no unduly steep parts (Thats tomorrows walk! If you want to complete a days walk to see a major of the Dyke then this would be the section to walk. Again we purchased our apple from the same fruit and veg shop and had breakfast in the same cafe. It was really nice to see a good old fashion town with the butchers / greengrocers and the nice town atmosphere.

Day 10 - Llangollen - Clwydgate. The journey was spent going over hills and along long roads until you hit Llandegla and go through the cycle park. Very nice decent through the woods. But keep an eye out for packs of cyclists. After dragging my injured leg behind me for most of the day it was a relief to get to Clwyd Gate. We moved at quite a pace and managed to finish mid afternoon giving me chance to rest up for the next day. Hover your mouse over an image to see a larger image.

Day 1 - Sedbury to Chepstow (Incl Travelling). The first day was only a short distance to walk, allowing travel time by minibus to Chepstow and the mile or so walk to the starting point on Sedbury Cliffs. This part of the journey would amount to around 3 miles plus a couple of miles back at night to the camp site. It was nice to walk the first few miles to get the trip going. As we werent in any rush we had a photo opportunity to get the trip underway. Hover your mouse over an image to see a larger image.

Offas Dyke was constructed by Offa, King of Merica in 757 to 796 . Although there is no historical evidence to suggest what the purpose of the Offas Dyke was for, many have come to the conclusion that this was a marker between the Welsh and English Border with possibilities it was used for defensive reasons. 177 gruelling miles in 3 days.... is it possible?

177 gruelling miles in 3 days. is it possible? The Offa's Dyke Run. Wednesday, 29 July 2009. After months of training the challenge finally started just after 4am on Saturday. The day went as well as I could have hoped. I had good energy levels throughout and managed to cover 71 miles by 11.40pm. Luckily I only had bloody hands to show for the incident. Once at our accommodation I had a shower and food and then, unsurprisingly, feel asleep very quickly around 12.20am. Unfortunately, I didn’t reach ...

Offas Dyke Run | A Cross Country Run

A Cross Country Run. With your help we can help others. A Cross Country Run Of Epic Proportions. 177 miles of up and downs from the cliffs at Sedbury in the South to the beach at Prestatyn in the North. In between, the gruelling terrain of the Offa’s Dyke Path and a mammoth trail run pushing the bounds of physical endeavour as two middle aged men try to run across the country unaided in just 5 days. The path is named after and generally follows the dyke constructed during the 8th century by King Offa.
