Camping Fees and Registration. Simple but comfortable is our mantra at the Okarito Campground. You will find the following amenities here:. Open and sheltered sites for campers/caravans/buses and tents. Note: no powered sites – the campground is lovely and quiet! Tenting only area (to keep the grass nice and soft! Firepits (collect driftwood from the beach). Locally grown fresh herbs available in season ($2/big bunch). Access to local walking tracks and beach. Bench with sink (cold water).

This website is a collaborative effort by the Okarito Community Association to provide information on the people, environment, history and present day issues of Okarito. The name Okarito is synonymous with kotuku, the White Heron, a large white egret, which, in New Zealand, breeds only on the Waitangiroto River to the north and regularly feeds on the lagoon. This website is for you all.
