Railroads have greatly interested me from my very early childhood memories and onward - memories which go back to the last years of the steam era and the Third Avenue Elevated in Manhattan. I have been most of all fascinated by urban electric rail transit. For the main lines and branch lines of the continent, over the decades I have enjoyed observing the patterns of. Often with switches, or crossing each other. And I have always been intrigued by the variety and urgent visual impact of signals.

Local Road in Grant Co., Washington, Looking North Toward the Small Town of Hartline. Of course I couldn't then foresee a far-future adult time, a time when I would have my own car, and a time when I would have opportunities to take hundreds and hundreds of road trips - trips that have led me to explore each state multiple times. I have done a lot of traveling, but in particular I have seen the USA - all fifty states several or many times over, routes crisscrossing the land and dutifully recorded on maps I keep. I've been in the majority of Canada's provinces as well, along a much less dense network. The distinction between the categories sometimes isn't particularly strong; maybe a better scheme will emerge as I add more moments in. So far just a few images are posted, mostly from some years ago.
