Journey to the Center. Learning things the hard way. So this year we’re looking at making some long term changes to the yard. But in the meantime I kind of wanted to test out this ridiculous theory on reducing mosquitoes through marigolds. We had a couple of pots in the house that really needed to have their existing contents dumped, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity. Plus, if the fewer bugs thing works out, it will be way easier to stay out on the deck longer. Horesflies are just no fun.

It curled and unfurled it’s mandibles. We tried identification and it looks like it was probably takamadhi? We also managed to see pustalose and varicose nudibrachs. And one of the flowered flounder, which I have never seen before. Dive two: Rose garden. 5 mil wetsuit and my new heated shirt (love it). Max depth: 61 feet.

Super tired after these dives but really, really happy with the results. I’m getting much more confident and comfortable as time goes on. 5 mil wetsuit and my new heated shirt (love it). Since they are so easy to grow, you get an instant reward for just popping their large seed in the ground. They don't need much of anything, and reward you with endless beans at harvest time. Speaking of the chickens, they LOVE their wheatgrass:. And what about their tastebuds? Chrissy getting her snack on.

Soon I'll be able to take clippings and add it into the salad bowl. Inspired by these little salad sprouts, I decided to do myself a favor and put in a small raised bed in the side yard. I grabbed seeds from my stash and set to work. The raised bed is in a small square of grass which is not used for much, but easily viewable from my kitchen window.

One of the benefits of having a garden is being able to go out during the spring and summer months and pluck bouquets to give as gifts. I was going to a birthday dinner today, and decided to grab a bouquet of spanish lavender. I think my favorite bee is the smallish fuzzy bumblebee with orange markings:. June is in full swing, and the flowers are popping up all throughout the garden. This yellow flower is a st. john's wort variety with smaller leaves than the norm. I bought this plant several years ago at the Arboretum plant sale, and planted it mistakenly under the eaves where it limped along for a few years with virtually no water. I've got to say I'm a sucker for flowers....

It's been so easy to grow vegetables and keep up with it. The amount of space used is small, and it's easy to water because they're right next to the hose. Wednesday, August 01, 2012. As you approach the Mt Shasta area, the majestic Mt Shasta Mountain looms high in the sky. It is the second highest volcano in the United States rising to 14, 179 feet. Complimenting the mountain range are healthy stands of sugar pine, incense-cedar, white fir, Douglas-fir, ponderosa pine, and canyon live oak. It is a sight that is not soon forgotten. Our destination in the Mt Shasta area was Klamath Ranch Resort. We have stayed here before and looked forward to our return.

Journey to the Center. Learning things the hard way. Edmonds January – dive 60! Went diving in the cold at Edmonds. Much better visibility in the winter than the summer time, at least 30 feet. Losing the algae blooms of a warm summer really does make that much of a difference. Lots of other divers out as well, partially due to the sun and partially due to the current chasing us away from other sites. On our way back in from checking out the wrecks we were visited by two seals who wanted to check us.
