Do you have any children? Since the passing of our daughter, my husband and I have been asked twice. The first time we were asked at a friend’s birthday party. We didn’t know many people at the party so in turn, no one knew of our recent tragedy. The question was simple, do you have any children? My initial thought is yes. Yes, we have a beautiful daughter, her name is Emma and then I would proceed to show pictures, and tell about how smart and gifted she is. The problem is, my tense would have been wrong.

We recently announced that the Turner Twins are boys! We were happy to learn the genders and even happier to know they were boys! I wanted boys, I hoped and prayed for at least one and He provided for us. As the news of the boys sets in, so does reality. Reality is that we will have to pack up all of the pink clothes, bows, and baby dolls not knowing when, if ever, they’ll be unpacked again. Father’s Day 2015. I’m sitting in the passenger seat while my husband drives us to a Father’s Day/birthday party. My heart hurts for my husband, for many reasons. In May, we celebrated our own mothers the day before Mother’s day. We decided to leave Sunday open for Jake and I to spend time at the cemetery with our daughter. I didn’t have to go to a big celebration of something that I no longer wanted to celebrate. This is why my heart hurts for my husband. This is a process. For many groups of men today.
