Awoke to more thunderstorms this AM… snuggled up on the couch for some freshly delivered croissants and focaccia (and a loaf of unsalted bread, which we’ve learned not to eat! Rome was quiet at 6am! Our driver picked us up at 6:30AM and took us to the airport for a 9:30AM flight. It was sad to say goodbye to Italy (so sad I almost cried! I was inspired by one of the great songs in everyones repetoire, Black Velvet. This cupcake is just as addictive as the song, only classier. This is definitely in my top 10 all time. If you’re looking for something sophisticated without sugar hangover, try this. 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil. 1 teaspoon white vinegar. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. 1 lemon, zested.

This cake is what happens when you go apple picking and then have no idea what you’re going to do with the 30 lbs of apples you’ve acquired. 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour. 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon. 2 teaspoons baking powder. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted. 1 1/2 cups packed light-brown sugar.
