Guatemala - Developing World Connections: Guatemala: San Miguel Dueñas: Aug 4 2015

Thursday, August 13, 2015. Guatemala: San Miguel Dueñas: Aug 4 2015. While working on various projects, we demonstrated several signs of a strong team. Especially with projects like these, where the ultimate goal is to help the less fortunate, a team that is constantly bickering over what to do and how to do it won't accomplish much. Therefore I am grateful and impressed that our team works so well together. Leaders can change everything about a group and I'm glad my uncle is our leader. This blog is ded...

http://dwcvolunteersinguatemala.blogspot.com/2014/03/march-23-last-day-for-sahali-team.html
Monday, March 24, 2014. March 23: Last day for the Sahali team. Today was our last day here in Guatemala. We started off with our final breakfast at Fernando's Café. We will really miss the food. We went back to the hotel at 2:30 and prepared to make our carpet for the procession. A rectangle of pine. Needles was laid on the cobblestone, and we adorned it with beautiful flowers and plant seeds, which is a tradition here in Guatemala. See you guys tomorrow at midnight! Friday, May 10, 2013. May 10: Week One Complete. Week one completed of our work here in San Miguel Duenas. We have learned many interesting things while working with our assistants (the guys who know what they are doing and actually we assist them…) Nariz and Eddie. They teach us and put up with our learning, and definitely let us know if we are doing something wrong! It is also an important day to remember any mothers who have passed away. Not too far from our work site is the mausoleum of San Migue...

Guatemala - Developing World Connections: March 21: Day 7
http://dwcvolunteersinguatemala.blogspot.com/2014/03/march-21-day-7.html
Friday, March 21, 2014. March 21: Day 7. Today was probably one of the most memorable days of our trip. Today marked the end of our work week in San Miguel Duenas. It was a very emotional day filled with good company, good laughs, and goodbyes. The rest of the morning was spent exploring the village and looking at past houses built by Developing World Connections. We headed back to the Open Windows Foundation to say goodbye to Teresa, Patrick, staff, and children. The goodbyes were hard but the relat...

Tuesday, July 31, 2012. July 29: Yoga, Action, Adventure Week #1.done! So I have been in Guatemala now for 8 days, and we have officially finished our first week of work on the house. I am in my element here. I knew I would be. Having been to Antigua once before, I knew what this place was like and it's even better than I remembered. The weather has been amazing! We are a determined group though, and did it in less than four hours, and we’re on track. That was a part that could thrown us back a...Through...

Tuesday, August 7, 2012. August 3: A great day to end the trip. I am SO honored and proud to know each and everyone one of the awesome Yoga, Action, Adventure Guatemala team! We came to build one house and we built (or contributed) to 3! We also taught cooking, jewellery making, bought beds and stoves, anyway let's just say we fully maximized our time here. I will never forget this experience and cannot wait for NEPAL! Guatemala, August 2012. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). DWC Volunteer Experience: Guatemala.

Monday, June 28, 2010. June 2010: Paint, Pinata, Flores and Tikal. It is hard to believe we are in our last week of volunteering. As expected, the time has flown by and everyone is eager to accomplish a lot before our time is up on Friday. Last we left off, the girls were busy painting the laminate to be used to replace the roof on the schools. Despite the overdose of paint fumes, we were very happy to be contributing to the functionality. On Sunday our group headed into the jungle to explore the histori...

Monday, August 22, 2011. August 20th: Goodbye Guatemala. The last day was a riot. We started it off by delivering stoves to a couple grateful families and purchased a piñata for the children at the coffee plantation and then we, the Gallo Gang,. Ended the trip with a couple fun, competitive soccer games with the Finca children. How many Canadians does it take to beat shoeless Guatemalan children at a game of soccer? How many Canadians does it take to finish Maria's house? Thursday, August 18, 2011. The p...

Wednesday, August 19, 2015. Guatemala: San Miguel Dueñas: August 2015. The team spent time installing new clean burning stoves in homes to replace open burning kitchen fires. This is what many families are using: an open burning kitchen cooking area. What a difference an eco-stove can make. Here are some photos of the eco-stoves that we installed. No more indoor fire smoke to make people ill. Thursday, August 13, 2015. Guatemala: San Miguel Dueñas: Aug 4 2015. Teamwork is key when working in a large grou...
