Our Family in Japan

Our Family in Japan. Saturday, December 20, 2014. Happy 4th birthday to our funny man, Leo! Leo loves music and has shown some interest in playing the guitar like Dad. Our first event for his birthday was a trip to the ginza to pick out his very own guitar. He had about ten guitars to choose from and ended up going with the bright orange and black one - the giants fan in the family was pleased :). We came back home and had Leo's special request for dinner - rainbow pancakes. Happy birthday, Leo! We celeb...

Our Family in Japan: September 2013

http://www.ourfamilyinjapan.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Our Family in Japan. Saturday, September 28, 2013. Leo, Archie and I headed back to Hawaii for two weeks in early September. Leo had a few routine appointments with the specialists at Tripler Hospital and Archie and I got to tag along. I was nervous to do the nine hour flights with two kids, but minus a pretty rough trek from the plane to the rental car to the hotel when we first landed, the boys proved to be wonderful travelers. I told him the entire U.S. is this fabulous :). We drove around the island ...

Our Family in Japan. Saturday, August 17, 2013. Wilson's school had their summer night festival at the end of July. The students were celebrating the arrival of summer and the beginning of their month long August break. The kids all wore their summer festival outfits. The girls wear yukata and the boys wear jinbei. The outfits are super lightweight for the heat of the season.Wilson had a ton of fun with his Japanese friends. Leo and Archie got in the spirit of things with their jinbei as well. Nathan has...

Our Family in Japan. Sunday, April 21, 2013. Nathan had a fun birthday that was extra special because we had visitors come to help him celebrate. Nathan's Aunt Lynn, Cousin Alison and her husband James came to see us for a few days at the end of their awesome trip to Tokyo and South Korea. We were so happy that they were here to help Nathan ring in a new year. Nathan partied with the boys before we went out to dinner with our guests. Happy birthday, Nathan! Wednesday, April 17, 2013. His actual birthday ...

Our Family in Japan. Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Happy 1st Birthday, sweet baby Archie! It's been a great year with this little guy, and we can't believe he's already one! Archie has been the most wonderful and sweet guy since he made his debut a year ago. He's quick to laugh, loves giving hugs and is a genuine joy to be around. He had a great time at his birthday party. Balloons are pretty much his favorite thing ever and he loved his cake. Wilson and Leo were, of course, eager to help him out with it!

Our Family in Japan: May 2014

http://www.ourfamilyinjapan.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Our Family in Japan. Wednesday, May 7, 2014. We celebrated another Tango no Sekku, or Children's Day, here this May. The Japanese holiday is celebrated for a few weeks by hanging koinobari fish banners around town. We found this large one flying at one of our favorite parks in town. Some banners get even larger than that! When it was his turn, Leo was ready and struck a very fierce pose. Archie opted for a little friendlier warrior look. Happy Children's Day and Golden Week! Sunday, May 4, 2014. Unfortun...

What's in a Name? Friday, October 31, 2014. The First Halloween in Our Home. What's in a Name? Wednesday, July 30, 2014. The Twilight Tattoo at Fort Meyer. During the summer evenings Fort Meyer. Opens its gates to an evening of military pageantry and a memorial to the history of the Army called the Twilight Tattoo. A tattoo in this context is not skin ink but a military performance or display. Beautiful officer's homes on the base. Virginia historians must love this street corner! We loved that the houses are labeled with the officer's name. And here are those amazing views.

What's in a Name? Sunday, September 28, 2014. Ramen Festival at Mill City. In search of a weekend outing, we ventured across the river to the Mill City Museum where a local Japanese restaurant. Was hosting its annual Ramen Massive Attack. It was fun to sample from the booths and try different foods like the Ramen burger and Takoyaki. Dutch tilt view of the silos above. What's in a Name? Saturday, May 31, 2014. Take Me Out to the Ballgame: Nats pummel the Rangers. We gathered with our friends, the Stockers, to cheer on the Nationals. This afternoon. It was a lovely, clear day for a game, and especially fun to have the Nats win. Teddy's in the lead, but Tom (Jefferson) pulled out a win! F keeps cool under her hat. Emily, P and F, proudly wearing their Nats red! One of four (FOUR! Home runs for the day. Final score: 2-10 Nationals! 1 responses so far, add yours. A quick s...

What's in a Name? Friday, August 29, 2014. In spite of some heavy rains, we kept to our plans to visit the state fair today, hoping that the skies would clear soon enough. With our best raingear on and umbrellas in hand, we trekked to the fairgrounds by bus and enjoyed the evening out. Alas, we saved our trip to the fair to its last weekend, meaning we won't be back until next year. See you there, at the fair! Do you see the rain? The ticket area welcomes us to the fairgrounds. Smiles amidst the rainfall.

Pike Schemes: Home Projects

http://shawnandsara.blogspot.com/2015/05/home-projects.html

What's in a Name? Thursday, October 23, 2014. We have been doing a few small projects around our new home. Here is an update on our progress. The wire shelves in the bathroom closet were covered with melamine boards. Now nothing falls through or gets snagged. The dangling drawer pulls in the butlers pantry weren't our favorite,. Especially being different than the door handles. Just a few minutes work and they all match. There was just one small towel rack in the bathroom. The wall was a dirty mess.

Pike Schemes: What's in a Name?

http://shawnandsara.blogspot.com/p/what-is-in-name-meaning-behind-pike.html

What's in a Name? What's in a Name? What is the story behind Pike Schemes. It all started with us trying to be clever, like so many other bloggers, and attempting to come up with a unique and creative name for our little piece of the blogosphere. When we coined the name, we lived on Columbia Pike in Arlington, Virginia. In Idaho there are very few, and even possibly no, streets that are pikes (turnpikes). So the term pike held some interest for us. They seem to be ever present here. But wait, you two don...

What's in a Name? Saturday, January 24, 2015. St Paul: Crashed Ice. On our way home from a nice dinner from our friends we saw the crowds for the Crashed Ice Downhill Race. And opted to hop off the train to catch the last bit of this extreme sporting event. How many times will we ever have a chance to see a huge ice ramp attached to the front of a Ca tholic cathedral high on a hill? It's a pretty unique experience! St Paul's Cathedral, looking a little brighter than usual. The view from another angle.

Vivid Dreams | Our Family's Experiences Volunteering in India

Our Family's Experiences Volunteering in India. Vivid Dreams: a Valediction. April 11, 2015. The humanist Albert Einstein blames this tendency to perceive distinctions between me and mine and you and yours on “an optical delusion” of our consciousness. He goes on to say:. Jesus taught a similar approach, reminding his followers they should “love thy neighbor as thyself.” Not surprisingly, the urge to draw boundary lines was irresistible. “Who is our neighbor? 8221; they asked. With me it does not come ea...

Our Family in Oz | Petit-jeans in Australia

Our Family in Oz. We had a place to live at last and had our familiar creature-comforts in there. At last we were settled or almost anyway. I wanted to join the Police, I’d applied very shortly after we’d got here, and had done the fitness test. But the process is long and slow, and there was no guarantee that I’d get in anyway. I’d ran out of time, and had to revert to a software job, and HAD to get it as fast as was possible. I took the offer, I had no other choice, and I started work a week later.

Rewinding Life Just For You

Sunday, October 7, 2012. Fourth appointment, surgeon. He didn't have a whole lot to say other than that his incision was looking good and we were cleared to remove his bandage and give him a proper bath! Quickest appointment of the day. They did however ask us if he had eaten any rocks recently. If you know Casen well at all, you know that this kid eats anything and he had in fact taken a couple chunks out of a rubber/plastic toy a couple days prior. No big deal though :).
