Welcome to OVERLANDY.COM, detailing Ed and Sue's adventures through South America in our trusty Land Rover aka The Weasel. We are back in the UK now and it's been straight back to work for us. 14/03/05 Finally added the last of the diary entries for Chile and Argentina. We are getting married this year in August 2005 and plan on spending our honeymoon driving around Zambia for a month. Watch this space.

Only Somewhat Boring: April 2012
http://somebore.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, 26 April 2012. Las Malvinas Son Argentinas". We saw signs with that slogan a few times whilst travelling round Argentina, some from the union of bank employees, and one even inside the bank's plate-glass front window. With the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War this year, many Brits (including us) would like to know whether we face a re-run. Obviously, I formed a view on this during the trip and here it is: No. I think the Argentine political classes are manipulating popular feeling. The...
Only Somewhat Boring: August 2012
http://somebore.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, 9 August 2012. Well, we're home at last. We've had a fabulous adventure, but we're ready to be home and get on with life. Our "Beaches of the World" leg took us to:. Karon Beach, Phuket, Thailand. Whitehaven Beach, Whitsunday Island, Queensland, Australia. Bondi Beach, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia (albeit after dark). Waikiki Beach, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, USA. Dickenson Bay, Antigua. So I'm calling that a success! For example, we found ourselves in so many places at just the right time:.
Only Somewhat Boring: January 2009
http://somebore.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, 22 January 2009. An idiot's guide to the Credit Crunch. I've read lots of printed and online articles and watched lots of TV programmes about the economic situation. As I'm so interested in the causes of the economic situation, let me misquote some of the things I've mislearned:. 1) A key cause of the problem was the trading relation between USA and China. It went something like this:. D) In America, borrowers representing a good risk get a good "prime" interest rate. Borrowers representing...
Only Somewhat Boring: July 2012
http://somebore.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 26 July 2012. Another early flight leaving New York at 7.30 am for Antigua. However, it was a flight of just under four hours and there was no time difference from New York. We landed just before midday and after collecting our luggage and getting some local currency, we went to get a taxi to our resort. This was only about 30 minutes from the airport. The beach was even better now we had chance to see it properly. There was also a swimming pool, which we sat by on one day, but the beach wa...
Only Somewhat Boring: October 2011
http://somebore.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, 29 October 2011. Big Plans; No - Huge! So we're going away for the whole first half of 2012; just back in time to watch the Olympics on telly (no tickets, naturally). We're going to break the six-month into three chunks, returning home between:. 1) South America = Miami, Belize, Lima, Machu Picchu, La Paz, Buenos Aires and a loop through Argentina and Chile ranging from Tierra del Fuego to the Iguazu Falls. Links to this post. Forgive me Reader, it's been a year since my last confession. 1) The...
Only Somewhat Boring: Happy, Helpful Honolulu
http://somebore.blogspot.com/2012/07/happy-helpful-honolulu.html
Saturday, 14 July 2012. Happy, Helpful Honolulu. In all of the flights we booked, the hardest hop to organise was the one from Fiji to Hawaii. The One World Alliance round-the-world ticket planning website could only offer an insane route via Tokyo! In the end, Lucy at Flight Centre found cheapest flights with Air New Zealand. Hence we had to fly south to Auckland and overnight there before heading north again and passing Fiji once more when well on our way. What made things work was the hotel next door,...
Only Somewhat Boring: February 2012
http://somebore.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 29 February 2012. Chipolata (Cipolletti) and Bariloche. The next morning we picked up our laundry, but were shocked to find out that this had cost us nearly as much as our room! The laundry back in Cuzco had cost us about £6; our fault for not asking price and as it turned out some underwear was not dry and all washing needed airing, so we should have got a discount, well you live and learn! Wine is very nice though, does that count as one of my five a day? We stopped at a hotel by the lake fo...
Only Somewhat Boring: June 2012
http://somebore.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Friday, 29 June 2012. We'd had a lovely, relaxing week on Hamilton Island, with just a glimpse of sun at the end to imagine what it'd be like in season. Now it was time to move on to Fiji. Due to flight schedules and economical airline choice, our route from The Whitsundays to Fiji passed through Sydney and Auckland, with an overnight stop in the former. The first thing we saw was an ice-skating rink. What else do you want on a midwinter beach? Beyond, we could see the white lines of the famous breakers ...
Only Somewhat Boring: March 2012
http://somebore.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 20 March 2012. One of the issues hovering in the background for the whole of our lap of Argentina and Chile was coming up with a schedule that would get us into Chile and back, then up to Iguazú and then land us back in Buenos Aires in time to fly home, all without killing ourselves in the process but maximising our enjoyment. For the first day we decided to drive only four hours to Posadas, to give us a morning by the pool in the second Iguazú hotel and then make an easy start. We found the HA ...
