Ja us avanço que la concepció "paleàrtica occidental" no es correspon gaire amb la realitat planetària (fixeu-vos que en la majoria dels casos cada espècie correspon a un gènere diferent). La informació s'ha extret a partir del llibre Owls of the World. Konig et al 2008), on s'hi descriuren 250 espècies repartides en 27 gèneres. La principal conclusió que se'n treu és que els mussols són principalment espècies equatorials o intertropicals! Quines en són les causes?
