Flying with the geese. Democracy. Not a Spectator Sport. December 18, 2015. December 18, 2015. When I was a kid, we didn’t talk politics or art or culture at the dinner table. My dad talked about his day, where he had lunch and who he played golf with. Or he lectured me and my three younger sisters on why the sky turns pink and orange when the sun sets, or why it is easier to lift something with a lever and a fulcrum. Math, engineering and chemistry. I tried reading the newspaper when I was a kid. I’m wr...

Elevator Talk | flying with the geese
https://flyingwiththegeese.wordpress.com/2015/08/19/elevator-talk
Flying with the geese. August 19, 2015. November 16, 2015. Geez, it feels like Miami today. I’m waiting for the elevator at the Sunset Plaza. It’s the guy also waiting who starts the conversation about the weather. He has hair to his mid back, and he’s wearing a Miami dolphin cap that I bet is. Covering a bald spot. Yeah I say. It’s humid. It’s weird. Not LA weather. Not knowing how to move the conversation to the next level. We’re supposed to get massive rains storms this winter El Nino. He says. We wal...

Flying with the geese. July 24, 2015. November 16, 2015. My friend Jeanne started calling me Goose. As in flying with the. That got me thinking. About being on a wild (goose) chase. Up and down the east coast, for almost six weeks now, my little rolly suitcase, my ever present computer, ‘in pursuit of something near impossible.’. Talking to people who feel confused, cynical, resigned beyond any wit of hope about the climate and inviting them to get into the game. Continue reading →. July 16, 2015. I met ...

Flying with the geese. I used to think courage was the absence of fear,. October 27, 2015. November 16, 2015. Until preparing for a face to face meeting with my brand new member of congress. 900 of us were in Washington D.C. in June for the Citizens’ Climate Lobby annual conference. Six of us from the district, nervous and excited, prepped for our Tuesday meeting. But it got rescheduled for Thursday. My teammates had to leave on Wednesday. Leaving me, alone. So what was I so afraid of? Scott Takes A Leak.

Why Geese? | flying with the geese
https://flyingwiththegeese.wordpress.com/geese
Flying with the geese. If you haven’t heard the story it goes something like this. When geese fly south, they fly in a V formation. I’m quite sure you’ve seen them honking their way across the sky. So the leader the nose of the V breaks the wind. They can really make tracks that way. So much closer to those warm, sunny wetlands. It’s like they are in the carpool lane on a Friday afternoon. It’s the LA in me traffic is an oft used metaphor.). Here’s the brilliant part. Another goose flies into the lead.

Flying with the geese. Milking Minnie, Chasing Chickens. June 30, 2015. January 29, 2016. Now Elli is in the kitchen making cheese, separating the curds from the whey. Not my usual Sunday experience. If I were at home in LA, I’d be at the farmer’s market, with my cloth bags, buying chicken, kale and mixed lettuce from the local farmers. When Elli isn’t in the field, she’s on the phone talking with new Citizens’ Climate Lobby volunteers. CCL ( citizensclimatelobby.org. Is my antidote to despair. On Democr...

An Owl in the Woods
Friday, August 18, 2017. OCC Rainbow Maker Day 3. For Day 3's cards, I cut strips of paper of various shades and shapes to create the background. I used a My Favorite Things Chevron background die to cut some black cardstock and the rainbow background I created. I switched the background and pieces to create 2 cards. I cut the sentiment from Honey Bee's "Happy" die and heat embossed the birthday sentiment from Winnie and Walter The Big the Bold the Happy set. Links to this post. Tuesday, August 15, 2017.
