Paging Dr. Allie. Med Student by Day, Mom by Night; Writer and Traveler Somewhere in Between. To the Mom at the Pool. On the Road Again. July 4, 2015. With Step 1 behind me and the first birthday celebrated with family and friends, it was time for another adventure. It may not have been the mountains I was really longing for, but they have soothed my soul anyway. View all posts by pagingdrallie →. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. To the Mom at the Pool. I love being a mom in med school. It’s not easy. Lots of people have told me that they are proud of me for making all of these facets of my life work together so smoothly. But that’s not always the case…. far from it. So here’s my full disclosure. I could take a nap! I could veg out and watch a movie and do whatever I want to do!

Paging Dr. Allie. Med Student by Day, Mom by Night; Writer and Traveler Somewhere in Between. It Can’t Be Found in These Pages. July 11, 2015. In the first week of M3, I have already learned that this year will be MUCH different than the previous two years of medical school. At the end of each rotation we take a “shelf” exam over common topics in that rotation, so while we might not be sitting in a classroom, we do still need to read and study. I am loving third year so far! July 11, 2015 at 3:23 PM.

House MD Redux: Wilson's Heart ~ Medical Utopia

Utopian thoughts on medicine, meded, and policies. Tuesday, 17 May 2016. House MD Redux: Wilson's Heart. Posted on 11:19 am by Medical Utopia. So people who know me also know what a huge fan of the TV Show House MD I used to be. Though I had vicious disagreements with some of the diagnostic trajectories and story lines, in general, the concept of a pained, misunderstood genius appealed to me. I enjoyed watching this misdirected misanthrope and felt his unreal genius attract me. The songs. oh the songs.

Utopian thoughts on medicine, meded, and policies. Tuesday, 17 May 2016. Posted on 1:46 pm by Medical Utopia. Just a couple of work days into the week and it has already turned hostile with work! This week I need to send out these three articles in addition to start properly studying for the steps. This is going to be an unpleasant set of days up ahead of me. I am not even thinking of the post-peer-review work that shall pile up around this time next month! Image Credits: PLoS Blogs. The Last Lazy Weekend.

Utopian thoughts on medicine, meded, and policies. Monday, 16 May 2016. SPOILER ALERT: Game of Thrones: Season 6 Episode 4 - Book of the Dead. Posted on 11:10 am by Medical Utopia. Alrighty then, new week, new work list and new work load, but what do I do? I come home and fall asleep like a log, only to wake up SO LATE and then instead of studying have a go at the newest Game of Thrones episode. And naturally, being the giant ASOIAF nerd that I am, I go on to Reddit. Tyrion Lannister and Varys make an ap...

Utopian thoughts on medicine, meded, and policies. Tuesday, 17 May 2016. USMLE Strategy for an IMG. Posted on 2:16 pm by Medical Utopia. As an IMG who has been away as a researcher for a while now, it is imperative that I put in more hours in studying for the steps. The subjects are detail-oriented and although one retains the broad concepts and general philosophies, it is almost impossible to recall the nitty gritty that often determines the outcome in the examination. Diving in head first and writing what i can. Anna in med school. A few lasts, for now. It’s hard to imagine that we will move out of our sweet duplex in less than three weeks. It has been our home for nearly four years, the home to which we brought our newborn daughters on their second day of life. We love Philadelphia and its suburbs. We love the friends and neighbors and mentors we have here. This move, though entirely what we want, is bittersweet. Yesterday we took advantage of our Longwood Gardens.

Utopian thoughts on medicine, meded, and policies. Sunday, 15 May 2016. The Last Lazy Weekend. Posted on 8:45 am by Medical Utopia. As I have mentioned, it is getting closer to tee off time for me, and in anticipation of that, I gave myself the treat of a lazy weekend. After a rollicking Saturday, I settled in to have a mellow Sunday, without much to do. Spent an awful lot of time reading old Calvin and Hobbes strips (yeah! Bill Watterson's rather optimistic last strip. This entry was posted in Personal.

Paging Dr. Bad. This is Bad.Dr. Bad. Monday, September 7, 2009. Clearly having your PhD doesn't always mean you can or should be teaching. Other people are just douches. I'm still wondering why some people enter a profession that revolves around helping others if they clearly only care about themselves. Thankfully these sorts of things are the exception rather than the rule. When I hear my classmates cracking on these same people, I get a little warm and tingly inside. Tuesday, June 30, 2009. Paging Dr. Dingle
Paging Dr. Dingle. Reflections and Reverence on Medical School. And your Mom. Sunday, January 7, 2018. In July, a friend died. Our shared experience lives on, but without him it seems duller. Joe lived a life that I could never put into words. He spoke a language of crafted asides that made him famous. He had many more words to pen before his untimely death. While I knew that Joe had two siblings and was the son of a "fish counter," (or worshiper, is it wrong? Wednesday, August 30, 2017. JUST KIDDING....
