Friday, October 3, 2008. On the wards . finally! I'm finally a wards resident! We had a junior resident retreat a few weeks ago so that people could share the highs and lows of being promoted to resident. As I've had 6 weeks of elective and 2 weeks of vacation during the first 3 months of this year, my colleagues joked that they were trying to keep me away from the new interns! 1 I believe in the duty hours limits. Interns have to leave the hospital after 30 hours if not sooner! Wednesday, August 20, 2008.

paging dr jess: July 2008

http://pagingdrjess.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 26, 2008. PPD negative and cavity-free! The nice thing about being on nightfloat is that I have daytime hours free. I should be sleeping, but when else am I going to be able to run my errands? I'm pretty sure intern year had a negative impact on my health. (Those hospital cafeteria chicken wings are pretty hard to resist.) However, it's nice to know that my teeth are still intact and that those N95 masks really do keep the tuberculosis away. Sunday, July 6, 2008. Next, I will be admitting ...

Thursday, May 31, 2007. Have I saved a life? Maybe now I have! What makes me think that maybe I have saved a life now? I donated blood yesterday! I've always wanted to donate blood, but there are many restrictions. However, I honestly felt ashamed that I work in healthcare but hadn't donated. Thanks to a decrease in stress and eating a healthy amount on a cruise this winter, I have crossed over that milestone. (Yes, that's the upside of gorging myself for a whole week on the boat! I took the usual precau...

Tuesday, June 26, 2007. Surviving to day 2. Well, I'm still alive. I didn't die of fear, which was just one of my many fears. The first day, night, and call couldn't come anywhere near the nightmares I had the night prior. When I arrived at the MICU the first morning, the intern signing out to me said, "You're on call tonight? Good luck with that! Saturday, June 23, 2007. I find this scary, but I'm keeping the link. In case I decide I want to have kids and dress them in personalized scrubs. The program c...

Wednesday, August 15, 2007. My pager: Putting things in perspective. I meant to write this post last week, but I kept putting it off. Anyway, I had that really crazy week, and as my husband pointed out, it wasn't a bad week, just a very busy one. I went to the beach on my day off, and while soaking in the sun, I was able to reflect on my week. Sunday, August 5, 2007. 1 When admitting, all your new patients can come to the floor at the same time. 2 Patients can become unstable. For me, not for a while&#46...

Trip to the Periphery: July 2007

http://tripperiphery.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

Trip to the Periphery. Tuesday, July 31, 2007. Or do I rejoice for the 33 active years I enjoyed. Orthopedic surgery was the ONLY rotation I hated in med school. Funny. Something about the bone saw- never set well with me. PM&R seemed like a silly specialty when selecting a career. Now I go to see one, for a cortisone shot, for a cure. Links to this post. Trip to the Periphery: New home

http://tripperiphery.blogspot.com/2008/08/new-home.html

Trip to the Periphery. Friday, August 8, 2008. My favorite part of our new life is the in-ground neighborhood pool. It is surrounded by over sized deck chairs, tables with large umbrellas, oyster roasting open fireplace and grill any man would salivate over. The shallow end is zero entry with jets of water that shoot up, indeed fun for the little ones. Having a pool nearby must be wonderful! August 8, 2008 at 6:36 AM. Trip to the Periphery: Back in the Saddle

http://tripperiphery.blogspot.com/2008/05/back-in-saddle.html

Trip to the Periphery. Monday, May 5, 2008. Back in the Saddle. More news actually. Today was my first day back doing procedures- since my hip surgery. I was a little anxious about being able to stand the whole morning- I can remember how grueling these clinics were last year. I would dose up on Motrin before and during the busy schedule. And today, NO PAIN! None I am so relieved. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Swim, the comeback. Total yards 2008: 4900. Stationary bike: 6 miles. Back in the Saddle.

Trip to the Periphery. Sunday, March 30, 2008. So I have news. that I am kinda anxious about. Looks like my days as a basic scientist are numbered. I am looking to make a change in my career plans. Tossing in the hat, there will be no K award application (although it is almost finished! None of this will they put in writing, and when finally appointed to faculty my salary will be a whopping $80K- no negotiations! Why do they do this? Who will ever go into academic research? What are they thinking? One po...

Trip to the Periphery: Moving Day

http://tripperiphery.blogspot.com/2008/07/moving-day.html

Trip to the Periphery. Monday, July 21, 2008. No way to tread lightly here. I haven't blogged, really in months. Those close to me have seen changes, bold but gradual. Don't be startled- the comprehensive update in bullets- I am leaving this city for the beautiful eastern coast, taking a faculty position at an University, uprooting my husband, having a baby in December. Congratulations on all your news! I live on the east coast and it is gorgeous out here. July 29, 2008 at 2:55 PM. Swim, the comeback.

Trip to the Periphery. Monday, May 5, 2008. I am officially on the interview trail. Must tell you it is SO much better this time around! They had a limo waiting for me at the airport, then delivered me to the hotel where I was given a suite. A suite! No story quite like Dr. G's. My OB/gyne). She came upon a laboring woman at the airport, and delivered the baby into her interview suit coat. So I am keeping my mind open and hopes up to find the right place. Paging Dr. Dad. The thoughts of a dad and small town doctor. Friday, November 11, 2016. What I Am Going To tell My Daughter. What am I going to tell my daughter? About a month before the 2016 election, I was discussing politics with someone online via voicechat . My 8 year-old daughter came into the room and began begging me to stop. Paging Dr. Dingle

Paging Dr. Dingle. Reflections and Reverence on Medical School. And your Mom. Sunday, January 7, 2018. In July, a friend died. Our shared experience lives on, but without him it seems duller. Joe lived a life that I could never put into words. He spoke a language of crafted asides that made him famous. He had many more words to pen before his untimely death. While I knew that Joe had two siblings and was the son of a "fish counter," (or worshiper, is it wrong? Wednesday, August 30, 2017. JUST KIDDING&#46...
