Pam's Big Walk: June 2006
http://pamsbigwalksantiago.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
Who is this Santiago guy? Sunday, June 18, 2006. So, who is this Santiago guy? The Man, the Myth. OK Well, way back when Jesus died and moved on to better things, his good friend James (Santiago in Spanish) left Judea and came to Spain to spread the good word. Only it wasn’t called Spain back then; Hispania is close enough. Anyway, Santiago only convinced a few locals to convert to Christianity before returning to Jerusalem where Herod promptly had him beheaded in 44 AD. Santiago now took on the new titl...

The Pam-African Queen: Saint-Louis
http://pamafricanqueen.blogspot.com/2011/06/saint-louis.html
Cairo to Cape Town 2010 And more! Thursday, June 30, 2011. Today is only five hours, and after a while I fall asleep because roadside Senegal is full of dead cars, occasional dead animals, and some stretches of spectacular trash on the side of the road. Please, people, any Senegalese reading this, don't trash your country; have a little respect for it. I'm riding with a torso behind me. A street in Saint Louis. Pam on the road. The Pam-African Queen: July 2011
http://pamafricanqueen.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Cairo to Cape Town 2010 And more! Monday, July 4, 2011. It's a Minefield Out Here. Off we go, and an hour later, we clear Mauritanian immigration. Now the fun begins. There’s an interesting three-kilometer stretch of no-man’s land between Mauritanian immigration and Moroccan immigration, with landmines on either side of the dirt track—1000s of them. This is not the place for a toilet break in nature. I ask my driver what his nationality is, and he answered. 8220; Sahrawi—Polisario.”. Pam on the road.

Cairo to Cape Town 2010 And more! Sunday, June 27, 2010. The Blue Nile Falls. For a few dollars I join a ferenghi. Take any of these kids, clean them up a bit, and put them to work at the Limited Express or the Gap at the mall, and they'd make a killing. Pam on the road. No pictures for a while since connections are agonizingly slow here. Will put them up asap. Anyway, what does roadside Ethiopia look like? Pam on the road. Wednesday, June 23, 2010. No Visa for Me. As much as I like Aswan, it's back on t...

Cairo to Cape Town 2010 And more! Thursday, July 29, 2010. More summer fun in Goma, DRC. It's not always gorillas that attract the hardcore traveler to Rwanda. Goma, that thriving, vibrant metropolis of the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, sure brings them in. Um, maybe not. Gorilla viewing takes more money and time (both which are running low), so I opt to take a mini-bus to Gisenyi, Rwanda's own "beach" resort on Lake Kivu and just a few kilometers from Goma. Main Street, Goma. Emmanuel takes me c...

Pamistan: To Osh, By Gosh--July 27-28
http://pamistan.blogspot.com/2007/07/to-osh-by-gosh-july-27-28.html
Superficial unravellings along the Silk Road- 2007. Tuesday, July 31, 2007. To Osh, By Gosh- July 27-28. I know a few of you out there have had the adventure of flying in a Soviet-era AN-24. I wonder how many more decades these things will stay in the air? For various reasons- time, money, and geography- I have no choice but to fly from Bishkek to Osh in one of these prop planes. It is surely more terrifying than any monster ride at a county fair. Across Central Asia the melons are utterly delicious.

Superficial unravellings along the Silk Road- 2007. Thursday, August 2, 2007. The Turpan Depression- August 1-2. Blogger note: I can log on to Blogger and post, but to log on to my site at blogspot.com- well, guess what? It's banned in China! What is with it in these countries? At least I can post- pictures, too. I can't log on to BBC News either- that must be banned as well. Anyway, Turpan hosts a variety of fun sites to see. A little cafe at Tuyoq. The desert whizzing by at 70 mph. Pam on the road.

Pamistan: Dunhuang--August 5
http://pamistan.blogspot.com/2007/08/dunhuang-august-5.html
Superficial unravellings along the Silk Road- 2007. Sunday, August 5, 2007. In the earliest caves, you can see art heavily influenced by India, with a stronger Chinese appearance through the later dynasties. Visitors today are shown about a dozen caves, and these are rotated to help protect them. Photos are forbidden, so none to post. When I get home, I'll scan some and put them up.
