Then this is almost the most perfect race bib ever! Side note: they were having audio problems, and the microphone kept cutting in and out. During the singing of the National Anthem, the crowd just started singing along whenever the audio stopped. It was kind of awesome. Before this race, my goal for the whole race season.

For something a little different, we rode with some friends north of Hwy 12 to the Dutton Range. We had been on some of these roads in the Jeep. And some were rocky and challenging for an ATV. My friend showed me how to get to Casto Canyon Trailhead. I can't wait to try it on an ATV. But I think we are running out of weather. We went to Peterson Point for lunch, overlooking Panguitch.

Once I could identify what it was, I could see it every where. From the sandbar of Florida, this amazed me. An actual volcano lava flow! The wind had picked up overnight and a few people were at the patio behind the Human History Museum. It was humbling, but not the once in a lifetime shot I expected. Despite the French Quarter being crowded, we found ample parking in a public lot near the old Jackson Brewery, which has been converted to a “mall” and restaurant. The sidewalks were crowded with people wearing Saints jerseys and I wondered if they were fans before they won the Super Bowl. It was unseasonably hot for October. St Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square. Watching the street performers. The air conditioner in the dormer cracked me up.

We started out at Bryce Point at about 9 am. The temperature was crisp and the skies were hazy. From fire smoke drifting down from Idaho. Last year I did the Tropic portion by myself. Chronicles of the Hitched and Aimless. Friday, October 5, 2012. This was our grand finale hike before Roger and Maria left. Fairyland is part of Bryce Canyon NP but is outside the entrance station. We took the trail along the rim, it is mostly level and was less crowded when we hiked it. There is also a more strenuous hike down into the canyon that makes a loop. The temperature was perfect for hiking with layers on. And I never tire of the views. I don't know the length but the hike took us 2 hours.
