Pass The Potatoes: January 2010

http://passthepotatoesblog.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 28, 2010. I had a fun day visiting with my mom and aunt who came to visit. They took the kids and I out to lunch at Super Mex (I had their Lite beans and green rice with warm corn tortillas and salsa - which I will try to recreate soon - it was delicious! Then we shopped around at thrift stores for treasures - which my oldest son called "worse than a garage sale." (The skeptic ended up getting a really cool tie! Here is what I did:. Serve over your favorite pasta! For the veggies: I rin...

Pass The Potatoes: February 2010

Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Sorry for lack of posts - sometimes it's hard juggling family, work, and extra interests. But I did find some great articles on the McDougall discussion board written Jeff Novic, who often works with Mcdougall, but also has his own site. They are about the simpleness of starch based eating. I found out something very interesting about whole grain pasta I never knew! Jeff's Favorite Healthy Packaged Foods. Simple, Easy and Starch Based. Tuesday, February 23, 2010. What's the de...

Pass The Potatoes: Red Leaf Lettuce with Roasted Corn & Pico De Gallo

http://passthepotatoesblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/red-leaf-lettuce-with-roasted-corn-pico.html

Thursday, May 27, 2010. Red Leaf Lettuce with Roasted Corn and Pico De Gallo. It's almost time to get into the swim suit. And I'm feeling the effects of too many "treats" basking around my bottom half. SO, it's back to 2 salads a day for a while. Do thoughts of salads make you cringe? I know it's hard in McDougall world to find a dressing that's fat free and palatable - I don't care for the bottled fat free varieties. But I DO love rice vinegar paired with different things.like PICO DI GALLO. This isn't ...

Pass The Potatoes: March 2011

http://passthepotatoesblog.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, March 22, 2011. I know. I've dropped off the face. I'm sorry, if there is anyone out there who actually reads this blog! Actually, I got a comment this week that is prompting this post, asking "Where I've been? Truth be told, I am just busy working 2 very part time jobs and being a mother, wife, friend, and churchy worker. Most of the time the thought of "one more thing" just overwhelms me - even though this blog IS a fun thing for me. Tuesday, March 22, 2011. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Pass The Potatoes: September 2010

http://passthepotatoesblog.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 20, 2010. Potatoes O'Brien with "Summer's Last Hurrah" Tomatoes. Ok, so it's been a while since my last post.ummm.(almost 4 months) - but let's not hold that against me - I mean 4 children, 1 husband and 2 jobs doesn't exactly leave a person with lots of time for "fluffy" things. I have realized something over these past few months (ok, and pounds) that creeped up on me. That I can not "do" moderation when it comes to rich food. When I taste it, I just want more. SO if you are eating a ...

potatolicious: Bombay Aloo (curried potatoes) & Veggie Sushi

http://potatoliciousrecipes.blogspot.com/2009/03/bombay-aloo-curried-potatoes-sushi.html

Bombay Aloo (curried potatoes) and Veggie Sushi. The other day I was cleaning out my basement pantry, and discovered several cans of potatoes. Since it was lunch time, I brought one upstairs and threw this simple but satisfying dish together. I liked it so much that I made it the next two days for lunch. As with anything to do with curry, I only use a small amount, so adjust the amount to your taste. 1 can whole potatoes, rinsed and drained and cut into 1 inch chunks. 3 TBS tomato sauce. For the recipe a...

potatolicious: Veggienaise

http://potatoliciousrecipes.blogspot.com/2009/02/veggienaise.html

No original recipes to share today, just a shout-out for Bryanna's Delicious Low-Fat Veggienaise. Note: Bryanna's recipe does call for 2 tablespoons of olive oil, which I omitted. My verdict - this has great potential. Mine did not turn out nearly as stiff as Bryanna's, but I attribute that to leaving out the oil. Taste wise, it was very salty, but at least it wasn't sweet! Here it is in chick pea salad, with baby romaine lettuce on an Ezekiel sprouted grain tortilla. Tuesday, February 17, 2009.

potatolicious: Super Quick Chili

http://potatoliciousrecipes.blogspot.com/2009/03/super-quick-chili.html

Tonight I made a super-easy, quick chili, using a packaged veggie chili mix from Simply Organic. I followed the directions on the package - a 28 oz can of diced tomatoes, 2 cans of beans, rinsed and drained (I used black and red beans), and the seasoning packet. I also added a can of corn, drained, and a 1/2 tsp of sugar. Simmer for 15 minutes, and dinner was ready. Yeah! Thursday, March 05, 2009. March 6, 2009 at 11:57 AM. LOL, Letha, you're right! March 9, 2009 at 11:15 AM. March 12, 2009 at 12:49 AM.

potatolicious: Curried Red Lentil Soup

http://potatoliciousrecipes.blogspot.com/2009/03/curried-red-lentil-soup.html

Curried Red Lentil Soup. Winter is still hanging on in upstate NY, leaving plenty of time to try new soup recipes. Last night, I tried this Curried Red Lentil Soup, making use of the new Sweet Curry powder. That I got from Penzeys. Curried Red Lentil Soup. 1 medium onion, chopped. 2 cloves garlic, pressed. 1/2 tsp ginger paste (or grated fresh ginger). 1/2 tsp nigella seeds (kalonji), optional. 3 tsp curry powder*. 1 cup red lentils. 2 cups shredded carrots. Salt and pepper to taste. They are traditional...

Pass The Potatoes

A blog about self-discovery, politics, and general awesomeness. Friday, March 04, 2011. It turns out I have something of an aptitude to it. Either that or my teachers are blowing smoke up my ass. Either way, I have been having fun doing it. My background in music really helps as it allows me to pick out the beat and understand phrasing. Sometimes the phrasing thing is annoying during group classes because everyone else starts and I'm waiting for the beginning of the phrase. Links to this post. I tell you...

Pass The Potatoes

Monday, May 23, 2011. No Recipe Required Veggie Stew. Give me a baked potato any day of the week. I know of no healthier way to fill up than with starches - and potatoes are my fave. Most people are scared to death of them - and for good reason I guess! The diet industry has manipulated the public into believing that anything WHITE is automatically bad! I even read recently that if you are on welfare, you can't purchase russet potatoes with your food stamps! Don't blame the poor potato! So glad you asked!
