Paul's Experience Teaching English in Japan. My experience as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT), teaching English to Junior High School boys and girls while living on Kyushu Island, Japan. Thursday, February 18, 2010. Overall I wouldn`t say the disciplinary system is broken, but to allow some students to, from class to class and day to day, ruin a junior high education for others simply because they happen to be in the same class as them seems to me an instance of total failure. life in the land of morning calm: much better than may day

http://elizabethinkorea.blogspot.com/2008/06/much-better-than-may-day.html

Friday, June 6, 2008. Much better than may day. May was chock-full of holidays, both national days and special days for my school. Some of my favorites:. Teacher’s Day (national). Students (or, more generally, the Parent-Teacher Association) give small presents to teachers. At my school this meant we each got a corsage, a small yellow melon, two hallabongs (a citrus fruit native to Jeju), designer socks, and a piece of cake in a fancy Peter Rabbit-decorated box. And half of the day off!

life in the land of morning calm: goodbyes

http://elizabethinkorea.blogspot.com/2008/08/goodbyes.html

Friday, August 15, 2008. So now I’m back in the United States. I’ve been here for over two weeks and soon I’m heading back to work in Seoul for another year. Overall, it’s great to be home. It’s so easy: I speak the language and I understand the culture! I landed in LA and had a four-hour layover before flying into PDX and meeting my family. There are two things that struck me as I walked around the LAX terminal:. Suddenly the home economics teacher was in front of me. 8220;You will go? 8220;But this nor...

God and Cancer: Gone Home

http://godandcancer.blogspot.com/2010/06/gone-home.html

This is a compilation of letters written to my friends. It chronicles the spiritual, physical and mental journey I have had with Ovarian Cancer. GONE HOME June 25, 2010. This is Lee, her husband, writing this final letter to her friends. After a twelve hour surgery at City of Hope, Marj did not regain consciousness and passed quietly into His hands. One might say that the cancer won, but in truth God won, because she is with Him now. I miss her terribly, but want her writings to live on as a testimony to...

God and Cancer: Principal Principle - March 21, 2010

http://godandcancer.blogspot.com/2010/03/principal-principle-march-21-2010.html

This is a compilation of letters written to my friends. It chronicles the spiritual, physical and mental journey I have had with Ovarian Cancer. Principal Principle - March 21, 2010. To my dear friends:. One day, some educator decided that fencing was necessary around schools. We thought our fun was over, but the principal of the school knew us and chose to have the front gates of iron raised to eighteen inches above the ground. "Roller Derby" continued. We go through seasons to prepare us for something&...

God and Cancer: Trust and Obey - March 12, 2010

http://godandcancer.blogspot.com/2010/03/trust-and-obey-march-12-2010.html

This is a compilation of letters written to my friends. It chronicles the spiritual, physical and mental journey I have had with Ovarian Cancer. Trust and Obey - March 12, 2010. To my dear friends:. I awoke this morning with this song on my lips, "Trust and obey, for there's no other way, to be happy in Jesus, then to trust and obey." Interesting song to be singing as I awoke. The night before, I asked God to help me not be to so sad. He gave me this song in the morning. How do I do that? In my own stren...

life in the land of morning calm: say hello to your eyes

http://elizabethinkorea.blogspot.com/2008/06/say-hello-to-your-eyes.html

Tuesday, June 24, 2008. Say hello to your eyes. It's difficult to get a real sense of it typed, as half of the fun of this letter was the special faces and drawings she sprinkled throughout it. But I still think it's worth sharing. I will miss my students more than anything else in Korea. I’m Yunju. Teacher I’m so sad. I have two reason. Reason 1 (Beat Please—like dugududgoodoo). Reason 2 (Beat again). I will go to the Jeju City (House-moving. I will move to Jeju City maybe (70%? By the way. Oh! Not emai...

Paul C. McKain for Congress 2010

Paul C. McKain for Congress 2010. Candidate for Florida's Second U.S. Congressional District. Thursday, October 8, 2009. When Will Bush Leave Office? I have to ask the question: When will George W. Bush FINALLY leave the White House? Granted, George W. did have a budget deficit of $459 billion in his last year (although Barack did suspend his campaign to vote for a large portion of it), but he should be ashamed that he has now run up a budget deficit of $1.4 trillion dollars for 2009. Let’s face it...

A human being (v.) | Stories, ancestry, science and God, not necessarily in that order

A human being (v.). Stories, ancestry, science and God, not necessarily in that order. March 4, 2017. NOTE: It’s March 4, 2017. I’m thinking about a friend who has entered hospice. His cancer has gotten to that point. He used to like hearing about my dog before my dog’s cancer got to that point. I wrote this in Fall 2015. A version of this story. Appeared originally on the WBUR blog Cognoscenti. Most surreal for me was this: My family had spent about 20 months in isolation, with my daughter at extreme ri...
