Paul S Williams :: Balanced

http://paulswilliams.me.uk/balanced.html

I try to create balance between the 4 main areas of my life:. My wife and family. My profession as a technical architect and software developer. My enjoyment of sport, especially mountain biking and hill walking. My newfound artistic interest in photograph. Each of these focal points to my life are separate, especially in how they relate to each other. However, I constantly find more and more cross cutting concerns between them and I'd like to share a couple of these aspects. And 320 and Up.

Paul S Williams :: Focused

http://paulswilliams.me.uk/focused.html

My strategy for focusing. How could it possibly be good? Simply because, my natural wonderings away from my task often present me or my team with lessons, new tools and / or techniques, and sometimes just a welcome break! However, sometimes that focus is needed. Why did I struggle with some software tasks? The implementation of a software feature, bug fix or similar can vary considerably in terms of size and complexity. What is the state of the development environment? BDD and automated acceptance testing.

Paul S Williams :: Aligned

http://paulswilliams.me.uk/aligned.html

The benefits of an aligned team. I believe in colleagues working, sometimes separately, in an aligned fashion - towards the same end goal. This contrasts with real life however. Individuals aren't always team focused. Many traditional management and human resource concepts are focused on the individual. This isn't a bad thing, individuals have their own needs and wishes. However, sometimes the need of an individual gets in the way of the needs of a team. So you want examples? How to align teams. Well, it...

Edale skyline wildcamp

http://walkingwithwilliams.me.uk/edale-skyline-wildcamp

I hill-walk. There, I said it. February 23, 2014. A couple of months ago, Jason. And I agreed to repeat and remix last years February wildcamp. A couple of weeks ago, we agreed on the Peak District. Splitting the Edale Skyline is an obvious choice for our first Peak District wildcamp. On arrival, we had a quick dinner at the Old Hall Hotel. Unfortunately, once out on the open hill the winds started and as we arrived at the Hope Cross saddle, they were causing concern and even trouble walking. We made...

Project 52 #4 – Simplified Settle Wier

http://blog.thephotographic.me.uk/project-52-4-simplified-settle-wier

Project 52 #4 Simplified Settle Wier. I took this shot on the last day of our minimoon. We left the Lake District on Monday due to poor weather and drive into the Yorkshire Dales as it looked brighter. I could also have moved slightly to the left to capture the backgroun chimney whilst not having the dark area on the far right but maybe next time. Project 52 #3 – Contemplating

http://blog.thephotographic.me.uk/project-52-3-contemplating

Project 52 #3 Contemplating. Last weekend was spent pottering around the Lake District on our mini-moon, and on Saturday we ventured out over Ullswater on one of the steamers. Just before we boarded, I got this quick shot of Cheryl, probably contemplating how many times I would point out different mountains during the trip. Well the answer was lots ;). Project 52 #2 – Furnace Sunset

http://blog.thephotographic.me.uk/project-52-2-furnace-sunset

Project 52 #2 Furnace Sunset. Following a day of programming, I took a quick local drive this afternoon to get a shot for #project52. As I drove up through Donisthorpe, i noticed this view of Moira Furnace. I quickly parked the car and walked up to the side of the canal. I took 6 exposures and merged using Photomerge and cropped slightly. Clicking through the photo will take you to Flickr, please leave comments there :-). Proudly published with Ghost.

Project 52 #1 – Waterfall in the Sun

http://blog.thephotographic.me.uk/project-52-1-waterfall-in-the-sun

Project 52 #1 Waterfall in the Sun. As my first #project52 entry, I thought I’d choose one my favourite subjects - waterfalls. Today, Cheryl and I drove up to the Dark Peak for a walk. Initially, we drove over to Castleton, planning to walk up Cave Dale and over to Mam Tor. However, the strong winds suggested otherwise. Therefore, after a quick stroll, we returned to the car and drove over to Fairholmes. Clicking through the photo will take you to Flickr, please leave comments there :-).

Project 365 #365 – End of Project 365 (2011 at Least..)

http://blog.thephotographic.me.uk/project-365-365-end-of-project-365-2011-at-least

Project 365 #365 End of Project 365 (2011 at Least.). Well, here it is - my last photo of #project365 2011. It’s been a great project, useful and I have learnt loads. This shot was the only shot taken after midnight but in accordance with project365 general rules, wake to sleep are appropriate ends to a day. After a great evening at Steve’s house, we ventured out into his garden / field and watched the fireworks over Swadlincote and drank pink champagne. Proudly published with Ghost.

Blog move

http://walkingwithwilliams.me.uk/blog-move

I hill-walk. There, I said it. February 19, 2014. For a while, I've been procrastinating over blogging, primarily due the yak shaving involved in choosing, and transferring my blogs over to a better blogging platform. Whilst Wordpress is okay, I've always felt constrained by it's wordpress.com. I then tried, and transfered Walking with Williams. And The Photographic Me. Now, I've chosen ghost.org - another open source blogging platform and will be transferring content and comments as quickly as I can...

WELSH RIDE THING 2014 - DAY TWO

http://walkingwithwilliams.me.uk/welsh-ride-thing-2014-day-two

I hill-walk. There, I said it. WELSH RIDE THING 2014 - DAY TWO. May 18, 2014. Sunday was always going to be the tough day. Our only full day in the saddle. 53 miles and 2,000 metres of climbing would ensure a good appetite for dinner and a good nights sleep that evening. In reality it was a day of two halfs. We completed most of the climbing in the morning, mainly on small lanes. The afternoon was primarily offroad and much more challenging. On entering the Castle Inn. It was a great family run Italian, ...
