I hill-walk. There, I said it. It's been a while. A while since I've blogged about walking that is. And well, it's mainly because it's been a while since I've hill walked. I've been doing lot's of local walks recently, but yesterday was my first hill of the year. The walk up from the reservoir to the castles wasn't too bad, and we enjoyed sandwiches on the edge, looking over the next valley. Even spotted some wildcampers in the valley below, though at midday, this was a little late to strike pitch! On co...

Welsh Ride Thing 2014 - day one

http://walkingwithwilliams.me.uk/welsh-ride-thing-2014

I hill-walk. There, I said it. Welsh Ride Thing 2014 - day one. May 17, 2014. Update: Please note that due to a ghost.org / theme issue, my embedded photos should link to my album on Flickr. But they don't so follow the previous link if you want to see me at higher resolution. I'm currently enjoying a fortnight off the bike to recover from the 2014 Welsh Ride Thing (WRT), and what better time is there to belatedly blog about our adenture? It's my 3rd WRT. My first challenge was with Chris. After the mand...

Big ride around the Peak District

http://walkingwithwilliams.me.uk/big-ride-around-the-peak-district

I hill-walk. There, I said it. Big ride around the Peak District. May 12, 2012. Well, over a year has passed since I last posted. Don't worry, I have still been walking, although not as much in the hills as in the past. However I have been riding my mountain bike a lot. This has increased even more so over the last couple of months as a couple of mates and I train for our first Welsh Ride Thing. Comments powered by Disqus. Proudly published with Ghost. Blog move

http://walkingwithwilliams.me.uk/blog-move

I hill-walk. There, I said it. February 19, 2014. For a while, I've been procrastinating over blogging, primarily due the yak shaving involved in choosing, and transferring my blogs over to a better blogging platform. Whilst Wordpress is okay, I've always felt constrained by it's wordpress.com. I then tried, and transfered Walking with Williams. And The Photographic Me. Now, I've chosen ghost.org - another open source blogging platform and will be transferring content and comments as quickly as I can...

Edale skyline wildcamp

http://walkingwithwilliams.me.uk/edale-skyline-wildcamp

I hill-walk. There, I said it. February 23, 2014. A couple of months ago, Jason. And I agreed to repeat and remix last years February wildcamp. A couple of weeks ago, we agreed on the Peak District. Splitting the Edale Skyline is an obvious choice for our first Peak District wildcamp. On arrival, we had a quick dinner at the Old Hall Hotel. Unfortunately, once out on the open hill the winds started and as we arrived at the Hope Cross saddle, they were causing concern and even trouble walking. We made...

Paul S Williams :: Focused

http://paulswilliams.me.uk/focused.html

My strategy for focusing. How could it possibly be good? Simply because, my natural wonderings away from my task often present me or my team with lessons, new tools and / or techniques, and sometimes just a welcome break! However, sometimes that focus is needed. Why did I struggle with some software tasks? The implementation of a software feature, bug fix or similar can vary considerably in terms of size and complexity. What is the state of the development environment? BDD and automated acceptance testing.

Paul S Williams :: Aligned

http://paulswilliams.me.uk/aligned.html

The benefits of an aligned team. I believe in colleagues working, sometimes separately, in an aligned fashion - towards the same end goal. This contrasts with real life however. Individuals aren't always team focused. Many traditional management and human resource concepts are focused on the individual. This isn't a bad thing, individuals have their own needs and wishes. However, sometimes the need of an individual gets in the way of the needs of a team. So you want examples? How to align teams. Well, it...

Paul S Williams :: Balanced

http://paulswilliams.me.uk/balanced.html

I try to create balance between the 4 main areas of my life:. My wife and family. My profession as a technical architect and software developer. My enjoyment of sport, especially mountain biking and hill walking. My newfound artistic interest in photograph. Each of these focal points to my life are separate, especially in how they relate to each other. However, I constantly find more and more cross cutting concerns between them and I'd like to share a couple of these aspects. And 320 and Up.

Walking With Widowhood, at Connie's Corner

Sunday, August 18, 2013. Well, I didn't think that this day would come where I would leave my home of twenty four years and downsize. For four years I've not felt that I should move so I've held down the fort even though it's been hard to take care of such a big place on my own without children home. Good bye, my dear old house. Sunday, July 7, 2013. The way I cope may not work out exactly the same for you. We all have our own time tables with grief work and just when you think you might be sailing a...

WALKING WITH WILKIE | JAK STRINGER RETRACING THE JOUNEY OF WILKIE COLLINS IN 1850 CORNWALL

JAK STRINGER RETRACING THE JOUNEY OF WILKIE COLLINS IN 1850 CORNWALL. ST GERMANS A ‘STRAP OF A TOWN’. July 26, 2015. July 26, 2015. When they arrived at the quay, William Dawle told Wilkie and Henry that we would walk them the quarter of a mile into St Germans, which he described as a ‘Strap of a Town’, meaning one long high street. And Wilkie replied a bed for the night so the Landlady then asked What sort of men were they that arrived at this time of night? THREE MILES TO ST GERMANS. July 25, 2015.

I hill-walk. There, I said it. After a good nights sleep, the plan was to get up early and get back to Pennant as soon as possible, picking up the last few remaining points en route. The majority of the morning went well. More beautiful quiet roads, some great if slightly energy zapping bridleways through the forest overlooking Staylittle and a fast decent to the main road near Pennant. We both felt the faff and logistics of caching different stuff at two places was onerous. Next year, regardless of ...
