Lemurs and heffalumps and woozels you say? Stories from a girl in the Peace Corps. Sunday, March 20, 2011. Favorite moments part 1. Here are a few of my favorite things that have happened so far:. Church- On the first full day with our host families, everyone went to “church”. Apparently in this particular town, “church” is kind of an all-inclusive word that includes 2 auctions, 6 baptisms, 4 weddings, 2 money collections, and a variety of singing and dancing activities. Mefloquin (my malaria medication)...

Madagascar: LEPTY, LEPTY, LEPTY (PART TWO of the enthralling adventures of Katie and Kerry)
http://kannoneill.blogspot.com/2012/04/lepty-lepty-lepty-part-two-of.html
Lemurs and heffalumps and woozels you say? Stories from a girl in the Peace Corps. Saturday, April 7, 2012. LEPTY, LEPTY, LEPTY (PART TWO of the enthralling adventures of Katie and Kerry). In the regrettable absence of Morgan Freeman, this latter portion will be narrated by none other than…duh duh duh…David Attenborough! One very important task needed attending to, though: fixing the tangled mess of metal their bikes had become. Brakes were worn down to utter uselessness; back tires wobbled drunkenly...

Madagascar: A funeral, a party, and a 90 mile stroll
http://kannoneill.blogspot.com/2011/09/funeral-party-and-90-mile-stroll.html
Lemurs and heffalumps and woozels you say? Stories from a girl in the Peace Corps. Friday, September 23, 2011. A funeral, a party, and a 90 mile stroll. The location of the ceremony was 90 miles south of Maroantsetra on a road that is notorious for being the worst in Madagascar, and also the most beautiful. We decided to walk it. Day two was another 30 mile walk, ending at the house of another school teacher. If I was a true pirate, I would happily call it home. Person tried to hand me a metal spoon whil...

Madagascar: My Work
http://kannoneill.blogspot.com/2012/03/my-work.html
Lemurs and heffalumps and woozels you say? Stories from a girl in the Peace Corps. Saturday, May 5, 2012. People have been asking me to talk about what I do. In Madagascar (besides getting abandoned on the roadside and holding meetings with my house-bugs). A fair question. I may have accidentally neglected to write about SEPALI, seeing as I spend almost all of my time working with SEPALI or writing about SEPALI. We would love some help when everything gets settled! Lemurs and heffalumps and woozels you say? Stories from a girl in the Peace Corps. Wednesday, June 22, 2011. My life has suddenly been reconnected to the world via the interwebs so I will attempt to catch everyone up on the past three months. This most recent blog entry will be at the top, so if you want to start at the beginning, start at the bottom. The staff are already experts about growing trees and r...

Madagascar: July 2011
http://kannoneill.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Lemurs and heffalumps and woozels you say? Stories from a girl in the Peace Corps. Friday, July 29, 2011. I walked into the big, old empty concrete building on the first day, and my friend delivered me directly to the dance instructor and promptly left to go do some other activity. Well, no one in the class knew any English, and I could not yet speak a word of the Maroantsetra dialect, so obviously we got started right away. Sunday, July 3, 2011. After going to the market in the morning and buying a coll...

I promptly decided not to tell him that I had ever climbed a tree before, and silently vowed to practice when I got home. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Lemurs and heffalumps and woozels you say? Stories from a girl in the Peace Corps. Sunday, April 8, 2012. CAN CAN CAN (PART ONE of the enthralling adventures of Kerry and Katie). This story will be narrated by NONE OTHER THAN…. Morgan Freeman! UNTIL…. With a final yelp, Katie suddenly reached a point where she couldn’t couldn’t couldn’t, and gracefully CRASHED into the bushes in a mangled union of bikes, rocks, and legs. 8221; in Malagasy).
