Mackenzie's Peace Corps Adventure- Guatemala Style

Mackenzie's Peace Corps Adventure- Guatemala Style. Tuesday, November 3, 2009. All good things must come to an end. After having spent two years living and working in San Martin Jilotepeque, Chimaltenango, Guatemala, I now call it home. It has been a tremendous two years, many things, good and bad, have happened! Needs vs. Wants. Coffee grows on a tree. Friendships transcend cultural differences. I love doing laundry by hand. A love of fresh fruits and vegetables. Nothing is ever as it seems. I have real...

Mackenzie's Peace Corps Adventure- Guatemala Style: July 2008

http://peacecorpsmackenzie.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Mackenzie's Peace Corps Adventure- Guatemala Style. Friday, July 18, 2008. I´m a ROCK STAR.almost. This week I went out to two new communities. These communities were way, way, way out there…I am talking an hour and a half truck ride out there! When we showed up and I got out of the car I was mobbed, I imagine that is what celebrities feel like but on a daily basis! I was a little overwhelmed and quite frankly a little scared! We got to use the new computer that Caterpillar donated (thanks! After lunch w...

Mackenzie's Peace Corps Adventure- Guatemala Style. Monday, June 8, 2009. Last week I welcomed one of my best friends, Carolyn, to Guatemala! It is amazing what friendships can endure. We had not seen each other for almost 22 months but once she got here it seemed like we had never been apart or that our lives had not dramatically changed over the last two years. What you could miss. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I have a new mailing address:. Mackenzie Knowling, PCV. Cuerpo de Paz/Peace Corps. Central Ame...

Mackenzie's Peace Corps Adventure- Guatemala Style: October 2008

http://peacecorpsmackenzie.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Mackenzie's Peace Corps Adventure- Guatemala Style. Tuesday, October 21, 2008. The joys of life. One really nice thing about my Peace Corps experience so far has been the joy that I get out of the little things! I know it sounds ridiculous but really it made my day. Now for those of you who don’t know the conversion rate, one quetzal is equal to 13 cents. It was a glorious day! I wonder what it is going to be like to come home…and not get excited when they change my milk carton. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

I’m in the process of writing a query letter to editors right now in the hopes that one will publish my article. I wrote it. Now who will read it? Today’s the Day! November 24, 2008 · 1:52 pm. Waiting for Water: Excerpts. Since the end of the semester nears, I’ve decided it’s time to include some of the story. This is the intro and the conclusion. I wrote the beginning on a hammock in Guatemala and the end on the plane home, while looking at the clouds. Cranking and whining, the machine delves deeper, looking for water. Sitting on the highest hill in El Modelo, the contraption has drilled 60 feet so far. She looks ...

I’m now in the process of writing a rough draft and having trouble translating language and culture for American readers. As mentioned in my previous post, the global sphere of information means the need to translate ideas to other cultures. It seems that the translation problems are going both ways. Lindsay in Moldova | Stories from a health educator and Peace Corps volunteer

Stories from a health educator and Peace Corps volunteer. This Week’s Lesson. This is not Moldova. August 2, 2011. I feel like I’m carrying a screaming, squirming infant in my arms and no one is noticing. Most people just ignore it. Some let their eyes pause briefly on it, ask a quick question and turn back to their smartphones. Very few take the time to find out what I’m holding, and then I find I have no words to explain what has happened to me. And it’s fun for the kids! So now I’m desperately waiting...
