WILLOW GARDEN MUSINGS: November 2012

http://sharon-willowgardenmusings.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

This will likely be a rather disorganized series of "musings", which may get better as we move along. The mundane "goings on" sometimes need to be addressed. Friday, November 16, 2012. November is not renowned as the favorite month of the year, but this year we are having quite an enjoyable month so far. It seems we have the usual annual chores that need to be done. The potato pit has had its insulating blanket of leaves added and covered. We have been trying to conjure a name for this rhodie, which we h...

WILLOW GARDEN MUSINGS: July 2012

This will likely be a rather disorganized series of "musings", which may get better as we move along. The mundane "goings on" sometimes need to be addressed. Monday, July 23, 2012. It would seem that summer is half gone and we have neglected to do much blogging. Rhododendron season has pretty much come and gone, with only a few blooms left on the late blooming azaleas and R. maximum. We were surprised to find a group of trumpet lilies in bloom a day or two ago. They are seedlings Bill planted a few y...

This will likely be a rather disorganized series of "musings", which may get better as we move along. The mundane "goings on" sometimes need to be addressed. Saturday, April 11, 2015. A bit of Spring Optimism. Spring has had a hard time reaching us here in Nova Scotia. In spite of having serious winter not start until almost February, we have been deluged with storm after storm with little respite or mild intervals. Everyone in the province is very tired of shovelling and ice chipping. The sunporch off t...

WILLOW GARDEN MUSINGS: March 2014

This will likely be a rather disorganized series of "musings", which may get better as we move along. The mundane "goings on" sometimes need to be addressed. Saturday, March 29, 2014. Last June we agreed to have a photographer come from Garden's East. To take photos for an article to be written by Nova Scotia author Niki Jabbour. Those photos were taken June 15th, so our rhododendron and azalea season was in full swing. Most images have a fairly good description, as we were asked for captions. It is alwa...

This will likely be a rather disorganized series of "musings", which may get better as we move along. The mundane "goings on" sometimes need to be addressed. Sunday, June 10, 2012. I rushed to get my camera and took quite a few shots. My brain didn’t clue in as to the species for awhile, but eventually Cecropia came to mind. Checking on internet images, that notion was reinforced. The species is. It is one of the largest moths in North America. This link has a very nice pictorial of the lifecycle. The pr...

This will likely be a rather disorganized series of "musings", which may get better as we move along. The mundane "goings on" sometimes need to be addressed. Friday, May 25, 2012. Blogging has been pretty much neglected as this spring has barrelled along very speedily. We had our usual business getting some plants off to Halifax for the ARHS Member Sale plus the quite large task of hosting our sale here at home on May19-20th. That event went well. The entire weekend cooperated with lovely weather. We cam...

WILLOW GARDEN MUSINGS: Dismembering Dorothy and Other Pursuits

This will likely be a rather disorganized series of "musings", which may get better as we move along. The mundane "goings on" sometimes need to be addressed. Thursday, April 24, 2014. Dismembering Dorothy and Other Pursuits. Lest anyone think our title a bit macabre, we are referring to the radical pruning of our rambler rose 'Dorothy Perkins',. She is a very vigorous rose which blooms profusely towards the end of July. This whole procedure was further complicated by the fact that there are several clema...

This will likely be a rather disorganized series of "musings", which may get better as we move along. The mundane "goings on" sometimes need to be addressed. Tuesday, October 16, 2012. It is now about mid-October and we have had very little cool weather to let us know winter is coming. Even the development of fall color seems a bit slow. The days are definitely getting shorter. Perhaps hibernation isn't far off. The B grandis have made a lot of little bulbils this year. This might be due to the treme...

WILLOW GARDEN MUSINGS: March 2013

This will likely be a rather disorganized series of "musings", which may get better as we move along. The mundane "goings on" sometimes need to be addressed. Thursday, March 14, 2013. March has a hint of spring. We go through each winter with the countdown to spring being a frequent musing. The last few days saw lots of snow disappear and made the possibility of a reasonably easy walk possible. The dogs were very keen on the walk, even if they had to mush through quite a bit of snow. The rhododendron...

Peonies and Pistols

March 22, 2014. It started with just rose bushes. This is part of the front of our 1920 house. See those nasty green bushes under our dining room window? I really, really, really dislike those bushes. It doesn't matter whose house they're at. Those types of bushes are ugly and I think date a house and make it look ugly too. Not to mention they are spider traps, as some people call them. Thank heavens I haven't seen too many in there! It will look so pretty and be so fragrant. There is, well, now was.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010. I think I've mentioned this before that I am VERY indecisive. Case in point, finding (and nailing down) our venue! I don't know why I am indecisive. I just have the hardest time making decisions, especially when I'm given multiple options. When I was little, my mom would treat us to shopping trips at Toy's R Us. I loved Toy's R Us when I was little! And I think everytime we visited the store, I ALWAYS ended up with two Barbie dolls that I just had to have! Boy, was I wrong! Danny...

Friday, July 8, 2016. Hudson, Ohio has exceptional fireworks every year. Lucky us, one of my photographer buddies lives right next to the park where the fireworks display takes place. Not only did we enjoy a fun cookout, it was nice to shoot the fireworks with a bunch of photographer friends. Here are a few photos - as you scroll through, imagine the deafening roar of continuous explosions and the scent of gunpowder drifting on the breeze. Links to this post. Thursday, November 12, 2015.
