The vibrancy of life above St Annes Pier with all its colour and vibrancy. Is in direct contrast to peering underneath its Victorian underbelly. Tears of a clown. Send in the clowns. For some late Autumn colour. I found the golden glow of Beech and Birch and the bright red promise of Holly Berries. And along the path I met Mole, Toad and Ratty. Mole, Toad and Ratty. Photography By John Barton. Tuesday, 3 January 2017. After a very cold and crisp 1st January, I went to a good viewing place at the top of Winstanley to capture the setting Sun over Billinge Hill, the highest point hereabouts. Another clear day on January 2nd saw me go to the Beacon itself, but the Sunset wasn't quite as spectacular, ah well. Fuji XT2, 55-200mm and 10-24mm Fuji lenses. The Sun dipping below the horizon. Beautiful deep orange sky. These images were taken from the Beacon.

Braving the stiff breeze on a cold Boxing Day, I decided to start exploring the area off Poolstock that was once the site of the Westwood Power Station and the two massive cooling towers. The towers were demolished in January 1989, and since then the area, now part of the Greenheart Flashes, has been returned to nature. Especially prominent are Silver Birch trees, and I'll hopefully document a season of growth and change in this area.

Photography By John Barton. Thursday, 23 June 2016. National Wildflower Centre, Liverpool. Josie and I visited the above, just off Jct 5 of the M62 outside Liverpool on a lovely sunny day. Here is their webpage full of information: http:/ www.nwc.org.uk/. Apparently, each year they don't know what the displays will produce, as there are so many varieties, that the displays differ enormously year on year. The Visitor Centre is a long, low Brutalist building, but the wildflowers brighten it considerably!

I only discovered this local site last year, so decided to visit just as Autumn is approaching to catch the change. It was an extremely windy afternoon with acorns and branches flying about, so my visit was shorter than planned! Photography By John Barton. Wednesday, 10 February 2016. Brockholes Wildlife Trust site. I took advantage of a clear, crisp day and went to this wetland/wildlife centre near Preston today. The calm lake gave me a chance for my favourite 'reflections' images, and using a 'long' lens gave me a chance to create some bokeh (aesthetic blur) shots too.
