Plain Jane Victorian

Saturday, January 4, 2014. I love the look of vintage appliances - and I've always been sad that I couldn't reasonably keep using my vintage refrigerator in my kitchen. I don't even remember what started my Chambers obsession last year. But I decided I wanted one and I wanted one BAD. So we purchased this one off Craigslist:. But it wasn't quite the one I wanted - I had to have a Chrome top (this one was a black porcelain). And I wasn't thrilled with the low back. Source: chambers.mgbotanicals.com. But t...

Plain Jane Victorian: January 2011

http://plainjanevictorian.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 27, 2011. Finally. an update. and a finished project or two. I have occasionally been doing things around the house. Not nearly at the pace that I was pre-pregnancy (and I thought I was slow then.) But every once in a while, I get the chance to chip away at a project. Vacation days are pretty good for that - I have even a little more time on the vacation days that Morty still goes to daycare. Here's the left side cabinets with their fake shaker frames put together. Of course, it's all j...

Plain Jane Victorian: June 2010

http://plainjanevictorian.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 27, 2010. MGZ done. back to DIY. I should probably update this more than once a month. but working full time and being a mommy leaves precious little time for blog updates unfortunately! Anyway, MGZ finished the contract work on the garage. It looks so fantastic! Here's the grass - it's coming in pretty nicely. Jim waters it faithfully every morning and night. He also put in the gravel to keep the topsoil from splashing back up onto the siding when it rains. And in the front, you can also se...

Plain Jane Victorian: Back to Painting

http://plainjanevictorian.blogspot.com/2011/07/back-to-painting.html

Sunday, July 3, 2011. We've been working on painting the outside of the house now for several years. See this post. From 2008, and that was even a year or two into the painting. When I first started, I did these color swatches on the back of the house to see what color I liked best. We noticed that those swatches are still holding up fairly well, even though there was no prep work done on them at all and the condition of the clapboards was/is pretty horrendous. You did such a good job with the garage, it...

Plain Jane Victorian: The Biggest Refrigerator EVER!!!

http://plainjanevictorian.blogspot.com/2009/10/biggest-refrigerator-ever.html

Friday, October 23, 2009. The Biggest Refrigerator EVER! OK, maybe not "EVER". Then add in the little one on the way. I'd like to actually try to cook at least some of my own baby food. There's no space for that now. Out of curiosity the other day, I measured the inside space of the vintage GE fridge. 5.5 cubic feet. That includes the about 1-2 cubic feet that is wasted by the unusable and constantly frosted up freezer compartment. hmm. It has a future in Jim's to-be-built garage. May 2, 2010 at 4:47 AM.

Plain Jane Victorian: The Never-Ending Paint Project

http://plainjanevictorian.blogspot.com/2012/10/the-never-ending-paint-project.html

Sunday, October 7, 2012. The Never-Ending Paint Project. Back for my yearly update. Seriously, I should keep this at least a little more updated. Oh well, so much to do, so little time these days. While I occupied our 2 1/2 year old this summer, Jim worked quite a bit on the front of the house, and his dad came over to help as well. Lots of scraping and sanding and painting. The trimwork had super thick layers of paint on it - all in horrible condition. October 25, 2012 at 10:47 AM. Lost in Michigan - Al...

L Norris Hall House. The tale of a 1906 Foursquare in Ridley Park. Saturday, August 27, 2011. I thought the end of the world was supposed to be next year? The Hall house rocked and rolled with the earthquake no problem and now bracing for Irene. 13 inches predicted for Delco over the next 24 hrs! Hang on there little stringbeans. gonna be a bumpy ride! L. Norris Hall House: Bigger and Better Ridge Beams

http://hall-house.blogspot.com/2011/11/bigger-and-better-ridge-beams.html

L Norris Hall House. The tale of a 1906 Foursquare in Ridley Park. Monday, November 21, 2011. Bigger and Better Ridge Beams. And now my rant on just how bad things were out of whack to try and start a new roof! I started with building the center cradles and then the one's on each side. On the front wall I built the right side first and then the left. When I measured for the left, it was 4 inches higher than the right side? The left side was not as bad but still had to move the front over a few inches.

L. Norris Hall House: Restoration Burnout

http://hall-house.blogspot.com/2013/12/restoration-burnout.html

L Norris Hall House. The tale of a 1906 Foursquare in Ridley Park. Sunday, December 15, 2013. It happened to me and it'll probably happen to you too. restoration burnout! I was good till year 5. Around 6 it started to get old and by 7 I found any excuse not to work on the place! Needless to say work has come to almost a screeching halt and the blog basically abandoned. Then again how many posts can you do about drywall hanging and sanding? Basically that's about all I have done on the main house since my...

L. Norris Hall House: May 2011

http://hall-house.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

L Norris Hall House. The tale of a 1906 Foursquare in Ridley Park. Monday, May 30, 2011. The End Of Ol' Blue. So was getting a few loads of firewood with some friends of mine when some kid "falls asleep", drifts over and WHAM! I was parked with my door past the pole, so he pushed the truck back at least 8 feet till the pole stopped his momentum. Luckily none of us was near the truck when he plowed into it. but we watched it happen. Saturday, May 28, 2011. Two More Beds. The "Farm" Keeps Expanding. Doug H...

L Norris Hall House. The tale of a 1906 Foursquare in Ridley Park. Thursday, April 28, 2011. Electric Service - 1906 Style. Apparently from what I've read this was a high end installation. Many times the disconnect was mounted in the open, but high enough to keep out of reach either on a porch on in a basement. The next question that I'm stumped on is where was a meter? Or was there a meter? I'm happy to say that this panel is officially retired now. 105 years later! Monday, April 25, 2011. Well it's the...

L. Norris Hall House: September 2011

http://hall-house.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

L Norris Hall House. The tale of a 1906 Foursquare in Ridley Park. Tuesday, September 13, 2011. Busy busy as usual and the house is getting ignored again. We had a fire at work which has required a lot of overtime but those repairs are finally done. Then I made a trek out to Pittsburgh for a few days and while there I finally got to visit Fallingwater - Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece. All I can say is it's even better in person! http://hall-house.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

L Norris Hall House. The tale of a 1906 Foursquare in Ridley Park. Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Surprise - Another Project Creates Another Project! Well you've seen me post about the 55 Bel Air. While it was at the body/paint shop for past 2 yrs now, I took the opportunity to finish the garage. Well there was one other car on my bucket list and one I never thought I would get. But then earlier this summer something followed me home. Setting the posts and rafter support. Fascia and sheathing installed.

February 27, 2016. Bon Appétit wrote up an article on Austin tacos. And for once, I agree [at least with the places I’ve been]. Joe’s Bakery on E 7th has the best breakfast taco. My favorite is the bacon and egg on flour. I need to try out the rest of the places on the list. February 26, 2016. Due to El Niño, the 2015-2016 snowboarding season has been spectacular. Plain Jane has a family...now what?!?!?

Plain Jane has a family.now what? After 3 years of infertility, now learning how to be a mom. Thursday, August 30, 2007. Wow, where has the time gone? I just logged in to blogger because I was reading a password protected blog and realized it has been over 4! Months since my last post. I couldn't believe it. Everything has been going really well. Work is good. Joe is getting bigger by the day (he'll be 18 months in 2 weeks). All in all, I have no complaints about anything. Links to this post. I won't lea...

Plain Jane Wellness | Wellness is for Every Body

Wellness is for Every Body. Why the why is so key. June 30, 2015. I did recently with my partner can definitely be filed under the heading context matters. Work because it wasn’t realistic for him to do one without me, and supporting his health is an “I love you” I want to choose every time. I did my due diligence, including reading and rereading this important article. I did a number of things in order to intentionally “fail” at losing weight on the Whole30.
