Freshwinds Garden: Little House Garden
http://freshwindsgarden.blogspot.com/2015/08/little-house-garden.html
Saturday, 15 August 2015. Last year we created a garden leading down to the little house. I have checked on it a couple of times since then. I was quite disappointed late last year to find the sheep and rabbits had done their damage. But I can now reveal which plants have made it through. If you remember, we chose what were considered to be rabbit-proof plants. We had some left-over geraniums so after a weeding, I planted them up. These plants are so far rabbit proof. A couple of different views. In the ...
Freshwinds Garden: June 2015
http://freshwindsgarden.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 30 June 2015. Dirty fingernails and nettle-stung ankles.I must be home. I have made three visits to the garden since we came back, but today, I got a really good surprise. It has been a baking hot day with temperatures in 30`s. The polytunnel was like an oven. I had to have breaks from working in there. But I was determined to sort out the melons. I read up about melon growing as I haven`t done it for some time. I had to untangle the growth and choose 2 or 3 shoots and tie them to stakes. Oleand...
Freshwinds Garden: Rolling Stones Part 2 of 3
http://freshwindsgarden.blogspot.com/2013/07/rolling-stones-part-2-of-3.html
Wednesday, 17 July 2013. Rolling Stones Part 2 of 3. The concert was in Hyde Park. It was the last of their 50 and Counting tour. Huge screens were set up in several places and the back of the stage was also a huge triple screen. Around the entrance there was a funfair with a ferris wheel and helter skelter and numerous food and t.shirt stalls. We made our way right through until we could see the stage .in the far distance.but close enough to a big screen. Everyone was on their feet by this time. Charlie...
Freshwinds Garden: February 2015
http://freshwindsgarden.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 18 February 2015. The weather for the last two days has been so lovely. really spring-like and warm .such a feeling of joy to be outside enjoying it. Yesterday we visited the garden with our nephew, Frazer who enjoyed seeing all the animals. Today we went to work and work we did. Tim was out and about on the quad bike and gave us a cheery wave as he checked on the sheep. He also transferred the artichokes to a better area. Whether they survive or not we`ll have to wait and see. A taste of thin...
Freshwinds Garden: April 2015
http://freshwindsgarden.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, 30 April 2015. Frisky Ferrets and Seed Scattering. My main job today was to scatter packets of seeds in various areas in the garden. In the end I held some back for May because they will need to go where the forgetmenots are. My brother James gave me a prize he won in a raffle. The new pocket system in the polytunnel is keeping things tidy. It`s made from recycled curtain fabric. In this area next to the onions I have put godetia, linum and candytuft. The sweetpeas are surviving. Hope everyone ...

Wildlife on our allotment. A record of visitors to Marsh Lane Allotments in Hungerford - some good; some not so welcome! Tuesday, 28 July 2015. Yep, it was giant and obviously a horsefly so not too difficult to identify. And, if my identification. Is correct - tabanus. This is the largest fly in the UK, possibly in Europe. Look at those mouthparts! No wonder their bite is so painful! The eyes are cool though. After I took this photo she flew off and bumped me on the head as she went! 28 July, 2015. In 20...

Wildlife on our allotment. A record of visitors to Marsh Lane Allotments in Hungerford - some good; some not so welcome! Tuesday, 14 July 2015. Soldier Fly - Stratiomyidae. This extremely pretty metallic fly is a Soldier Fly. There have been a few around the allotment this year - glistening like a jewel in the sunlight. From what I've seen online. It would appear that this is a female. The males have a bronse abdomen rather than this pretty blue one. 20 July, 2015. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Wildlife on our allotment. A record of visitors to Marsh Lane Allotments in Hungerford - some good; some not so welcome! Sunday, 2 August 2015. Big Butterfly Count 2015. Today I managed to get my Big Butterfly Count. Done at the allotment site entrance where we have a meadow which gets cut down once a year. There's a section where we piled a load of cuttings a couple of years ago and the thistles are doing particularly well there! So that's where I did my count. I did counts on the site in 2012.
