Polymath: A person with expertise in a number of disparate subjects (Jack of all trades, master of none; or as my dad says, a smart ass! Friday, September 16, 2011. Re-entering an old job. I have a degree in Biology, with a Chemistry minor, and I have monitored the swarming behavior of motor vehicles for the last 6 years for the City of Eugene. Part of my job there was drawing and/or approving temporary traffic control plans for work in the City's right-of-way. Shouldn't take so long. Check out the dyeing.

Polymath: A person with expertise in a number of disparate subjects (Jack of all trades, master of none; or as my dad says, a smart ass! Monday, February 11, 2013. I have been slowly progressing toward a wheat-free existence. This week, I will remove all wheat pasta, flour and wheat containing packaged food that's been hibernating in my pantry, which will remove a big temptation. The chickens weren't too sure about these red things flying into their pen, until I cracked them open. Back to the drawing boa...

Polymath: A person with expertise in a number of disparate subjects (Jack of all trades, master of none; or as my dad says, a smart ass! Wednesday, April 11, 2012. And my internet connection at the new place is really, really slow (picture dial up.). I've been working a lot - this is a busy time of year for paving projects, and the associated traffic control plans. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the work! I've started putting up containers for the birds. I need to get them home - I miss them! I have in...

Polymath: A person with expertise in a number of disparate subjects (Jack of all trades, master of none; or as my dad says, a smart ass! Thursday, May 16, 2013. I fell of the edge. It's been a long few weeks. Right after I last posted, I was inundated with traffic plan work (good, but tiring), as well as having to do a major dye run to prepare for not one, but three fiber shows in less than 30 days. I didn't do much other than work and dye (die? For the complete recap. Sunlight iridescence - lovely!

Purple Fuzzy Mittens: July 2014
http://purplefuzzymittens.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 31, 2014. I designed the Glacier Bay Scarf. For a family knit-along taking place during an Alaskan cruise. With a combination of brand-new and seasoned knitters, the pattern needed to be super-easy, yet interesting, and provide fast visible progress. This pattern includes only knit, knit 2 together, and yarn over, and due to the open mesh sections knits up really quickly. The design of the scarf is reminiscent of rippling waves interspersed with horizontal sea ice. K2tog - knit 2 together.

Purple Fuzzy Mittens: Window on the Sea
http://purplefuzzymittens.blogspot.com/2012/07/window-on-sea.html
Saturday, July 14, 2012. Window on the Sea. I finally finished another afghan, this time as a wedding gift for my nephew Eric and his bride Ashley. The concept behind this afghan is a window looking out on an abstract seascape. The purls add a lot. I think you nailed the whole idea you were going for. Congratulations. It turned out beautifully, what a wonderful gift. I saw earlier pictures but didnt understand the whole process. The results are fantastic - a gift of a lifetime. View my complete profile.

Purple Fuzzy Mittens: Spindle Camp 2013
http://purplefuzzymittens.blogspot.com/2013/06/spindle-camp-2013.html
Sunday, June 09, 2013. It was warm. Really warm. Some folks brought stuff to sell. Sharon wove these gorgeous towels that I snapped up for the little trailer. We had a "pirate" exchange and I am going home with some great yarn. Here's a video Lucy took of Barbara Sue:. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I live in Reno, Nevada, where I split my time between home and garden renovation, my vintage travel trailer, and fiber hobbies of all kinds. Oh, and I go to work to keep the cats in kibble, too.

Purple Fuzzy Mittens: Michelin Man Mitts
http://purplefuzzymittens.blogspot.com/2010/02/michelin-man-mitts-pattern.html
Thursday, February 11, 2010. 18 stitches per 4 inches (4.5 ss/in). Needles: U.S. size 7 double-points or size to meet gauge. (Either 4 or 5 needles, whichever is most comfortable), stitch holder or scrap yarn to hold thumb stitches. I used softly handspun alpaca at 11 wpi. Any soft, fuzzy yarn that is pleasantly squishy at the gauge should work. Cast on 32 stitches (loosely) and join in round, distributing stitches evenly between needles. INCREASE FOR THUMB GUSSET:. K1, LI, knit to last stitch, LI, K1.
All Done | Poverty with a View
https://majorasue.wordpress.com/2014/03/20/all-done
Poverty with a View. Sheep and fibery goodness galore. And that quickly, kidding season is over. Wow, that was fast! In a week, my goat herd has more than tripled. I’ve gone from 3 very pregnant does to 10 goats! I had told the Goat Girls that I had plans on Tuesday (more on that later), so they needed to cooperate. Clara had her twin boys on Monday afternoon. Compared to the triplets, these guys are bruisers! So, what were the plans on Tuesday that I didn’t want interrupted? Had bought a “new̶...
Fiber Voodoo: October 2011
http://fibervoodoo.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Pursuit of Fiber Excellence - weaving, spinning, dyeing, knitting. Sunday, October 30, 2011. Return to weaving and I LIKE it! There is a "Farm Day" held here in Prineville, in association with a cattle dog trial. When a group of us was talking about it, I had a thought - "I wonder if I could get the little loom back? I called the woman to whom I had sold it. It turns out she has never woven on it, and was happy to sell it back to me! Enough. The weft is raw silk that I dyed black. Friday, I warped the lo...
Fiber Voodoo: November 2011
http://fibervoodoo.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Pursuit of Fiber Excellence - weaving, spinning, dyeing, knitting. Saturday, November 19, 2011. It was a day of learning opportunities. At least it wasn’t “character building” – I have enough character, thank you very much! When I blogged last, the warp had been wound and ready to sley through the reed, and thread. I did most of it last night, leaving about 2 inches to do this morning. After completing that, I started beaming the warp. Learning opportunity: I had a couple of warp threads that broke when ...

Dances With Horses: September 2014
http://boulderneighdressage.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
To ride dressage is to dance with your horse, equal partners in the delicate and sometimes difficult work of creating harmony and beauty. Wednesday, September 24, 2014. Lance was mouthier than usual while I tacked him up, and fresher than usual under saddle. The added energy was nice – except when it erupted into a bit of bucking at the canter. ;-). As we finished up, the sky matched my mood. There's nothing like a nice ride on a good horse to make the whole world look rosy! Links to this post. We had so...

Spent last weekend at the annual retreat of the Carson Sierra Spinners and Weavers, camping at Davis Creek County Park. I only sort of retreated, since I spent most of the meeting day off in Reno at the UNR Ag Field Day, but I had fun none-the-less. Always great to camp with fiber friends! Links to this post. Purple Fuzzy Mittens: October 2012
http://purplefuzzymittens.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, October 20, 2012. Kelp Bed Scarf Pattern. Kelp Bed Scarf (aka One-Row Pleated Scarf). Any yarn you would like to use. The crisper and/or stretchier the yarn is, the better it will retain its accordion pleating. For the orange scarf shown I used "Fibra Natura Flax" linen. Not too critical, but sized to knit your yarn somewhat loosely (I used U.S. 7). Cast on a multiple of 5 1 (For my orange scarf I cast on 31ss.). EVERY ROW: *K3, YO, P2tog* repeat to last stitch, K1. Yes, it is that easy! I live...
