Sit, Billy.: An Introduction
http://sitbilly.blogspot.com/2012/05/message-from-camp.html
Later this month I'm moving to Costa Mesa, within walking distance from the "SoBECA District." "SoBECA" is an acronym for "South on Bristol Entertainment, Culture and Arts," which doesn't really make sense. But moving on. SoBECA's two big features are The LAB. Little American Business") and The CAMP. Which are located across from each other along South Bristol and anchor this Orange County anomaly. And I can't figure out what I think of them. And unfortunately for these two landmarks, The LAB's.

Soul Cyclist: Another take on "If Apple made bikes"
http://soulcyclist.blogspot.com/2009/06/another-take-on-if-apple-made-bikes.html
A soul cyclist is someone who, not unlike a soul surfer, explores the essence and meaning of bicycle riding. Or perhaps it's just someone who, like me, has time to ponder these things because he is tragically slow and rides alone. Tuesday, June 30, 2009. Another take on "If Apple made bikes". Last week, the Practical Cyclist blogged. About what a bicycle designed by Apple computer might look like:. Maintenance: Carbon or aramid drive belt good for 10,000 miles. Sealed bearings everywhere. Aramid-...Now, ...

A Temporary Omnivore in Paris: September 2008
http://temporaryomnivore.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
A Temporary Omnivore in Paris. Monday, September 8, 2008. While visiting Houston last month, I dropped by Brazos Bookstore. 160;and picked up a copy of Susan Bourette’s Meat: . A book that truly made me appreciate my own lack of street cred. . Bourette, a Canadian journalist, spent four days undercover in a pork processing plant and, disgusted by punitive working conditions and the sheer gruesomeness of the job, vowed to swear off meat. . This woman has street cred. Make trips to any farms, or ki...

A Temporary Omnivore in Paris: L'Ecailler du Bistrot
http://temporaryomnivore.blogspot.com/2008/07/lecailler-du-bistrot.html
A Temporary Omnivore in Paris. Monday, July 28, 2008. One of the few French pop songs I truly like is Vincent Delerm’s “. In it, the singer envisions how his girlfriend’s parents might be and describes a few different familial scenarios, each more horrifying than the last. . The happy ending is that Vincent is willing to put up with a lot—slideshows of vacation photos, slobbering dogs, opera music—to make things to work out with his lady. . Southern Brittany that were not to miss. . I didn’t t...

A Temporary Omnivore in Paris: August 2008
http://temporaryomnivore.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
A Temporary Omnivore in Paris. Thursday, August 28, 2008. If I have been quieter than usual over the past couple of weeks, I can blame it only partially on the fact that I’ve been traveling. . The other part is that now that I have returned to vegetarianism, the issues surrounding meat seem more complicated than ever. In my search for clarity, I have finally gotten around to reading Animal Liberation. 160;with more skill and insight than I can hope to achieve. . People particularly do not like hearin...

http://temporaryomnivore.blogspot.com/2008/08/note-to-readers.html
A Temporary Omnivore in Paris. Wednesday, August 6, 2008. A Note to Readers. My days as a temporary omnivore in Paris are a thing of the past, but I’m not quite finished with this blog. I'm eating vegetarian now but am planning. 160;to have one last meat-containing meal with Tristan. When I get back to New York in September, and, until then, I’ll keep posting here (with a little less frequency than usual). . What are the symptoms of meat withdrawal? Stay tuned to find out. One Bouquet, Four Rooms. Cup, the ceramic or porcelain cup that looks crumpled, but it was a gift so I'm not sure. In the bedroom, I've placed a couple of lilies that have yet to bloom in a square glass vase. And in the living room, a couple of unidentified violet flowers in a sake bottle add a touch of color to the white coffee table. SoBECA's two big features are The LAB. The Best Kind of [Street] Closure. LOS ANGELES - This week I finally got a better look at that green thing on Griffith Park Boulevard that I've driven past countless times since I began working in Silver Lake. First of all, it has a name: Sunset Triangle Plaza. And, lucky for Silver Lake residents, it's Los Angeles' first street-turned-pedestrian-plaza. On Wednesday the organization de LaB. S Margot Ocañas and Anna Peccianti, Frank Clementi of Rios Clementi Hale Studios. Installed by LADOT. Wednesday...

CECIL BEATON'S SKETCH FOR MY FAIR LADY. IMAGE VIA HATSANDVEILS.NET. There are so many good classic films I have yet to see and, until this week, My Fair Lady. Was one of them. Lucky me, I got to see it at The Music Center's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, which opened the same year the film was released (1964) and where, I'd like to point out, the Oscars were held several times. So why was My Fair Lady. Playing at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, and why was I there? S Last Remaining Seats. Did I like it? Looki...

Sit, Billy.: Barack-oli Tree House

Credit: Brock Davis/Flickr via Slate. Having always liked broccoli's resemblance to trees (I guess that makes cauliflower winter trees) and probably because I went to architecture school, I couldn't resist posting this photo. I came across it in a slideshow. That accompanies yesterday's Slate. Article, "Why Broccoli? By friend L.V. Anderson. Who you may know as the woman behind the blog A Temporary Omnivore in Paris.
