Roy In Ireland: December 2009
http://royinireland.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 14, 2009. So that's the end of my little Irish adventure. Almost two years after arriving in Ireland I flew out of Cork yesterday (Thursday 10th Dec) to spend some brief time in Birmingham with Mum before heading off back to Jersey where I landed today (Friday 11th Dec). In due course I'll maybe write a proper retrospective. But for now, things I'll miss about Ireland. 8226; My many friends at Crusaders AC in Dublin - I just can't believe that I'll never see many of them again. 8226; The...

Roy In Ireland: June 2009
http://royinireland.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 29, 2009. I touched in my last entry on Travellers, that social group in Ireland that are nomadic and who are generally looked upon with suspicion (at best) and actively disliked by many. But they remain, happily in my opinion, part of the Irish landscape. But what a pity we can’t take them back to those horse-drawn caravan days with their campfires on lonely country roads, scaring the bejaysus out of timid English boys. Links to this post. Roy In Ireland: 1,000 Miles
http://royinireland.blogspot.com/2009/12/1000-miles.html
Tuesday, December 1, 2009. I had resolved to do the final seven miles this morning and the weather gods weren't going to stop me. It was lashing down and the wind was howling as I set off from Togher up Spur Hill. Truly it was a day when the general populace is proved correct in regarding us runners as slightly insane. Whatever, I turned around today and with the contours and conditions now very much in my favour I scooted back at a fair old trot and fairly flew (for me) the last couple of miles in sub-8s.

Roy In Ireland: February 2009
http://royinireland.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 27, 2009. Mott The Hoople Reunion. Something that no one thought would actually happen, a Mott The Hoople reunion! The original lineup of Ian Hunter, Mick Ralphs, Overend Watts, Verden Allen and Dale Griffin. I've grabbed a pair of tickets for the first night at the Hammersmith Odeon on 1 October. So now I've got to grow my hair and acquire some shades so I'll have a bit of 'cred' on concert night! Links to this post. No speed sessions at the track though. In honesty it would mean sa...

Roy In Ireland: Caution, Bowling In Progress
http://royinireland.blogspot.com/2009/11/caution-bowing-in-progress.html
Monday, November 30, 2009. Caution, Bowling In Progress. Today's match was a pretty low-key affair though with only a dozen or so spectators. I stopped to allow one chap to take his turn which proved a weak, off-target effort and I proceeded on my way. So 12 miles in 2:07 making 27 on the week and 993 for the year to date. All things being equal I'll try to wrap up the 1,000 on Tuesday. So, thats what road bowling is. I was running near Cork airport earlier this year (very close to the route you just...

A Runner's Tale: March 2011
http://irun-michael.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Although I can recall my first jaunt like it was yesterday, spring 1990, it wasn't until 2004 that running became something verging on obsession. Life has changed immeasurably since that inaugural step; yet I still welcome that carnival of pain, loving each and every stride. Monday, March 28. Tuesday, March 22. Although I had great hand-eye coordination and stamina, my play making ability was left rather lacking. To make up for this shortfall, I would doggedly hound the other players, ultimately forc...

Life has changed immeasurably since that inaugural step; yet I still welcome that carnival of pain, loving each and every stride. Friday, June 3. I knew heading into the event that my fitness was building and consequently didn’t have high expectations. Based on my recent 10k, and with minimal tempo/long runs I envisioned a drawn-out 1h21.
