In the spring of 1992 the founding members of the. Grupo Ecológico de la Costa Verde, A.C. The Group) organized and built the first marine nursery in San Francisco, Nayarit. As a first step, the Group acknowledges the importance of teaching the local children respect for nature, sound principles of preservation, and environmental accountability. To meet this goal we conducted a variety of environmental classes, workshops and field projects for young people ages 7 to 17. On April 16, 1993, Grupo Ecológico de la Costa Verde, A.C. received official recognition by the Mexican Government to become the first environmental non-profit civil association of the region with the special interest in the protection of the marine turtle.
