Week 1: Exam Anxiety | Science of Education '13
https://psuc31soe.wordpress.com/2013/10/04/week-1-exam-anxiety
Science of Education '13. Week 1: Exam Anxiety. And again in year 11 I got into trouble with my parents as they were asking why I was failing GCSE Spanish, I did nott do GCSE Spanish! But I had a report from a teacher listing all the areas where I needed to improve. Why are schools so impersonal? A lot of this can be put down to the assessment methods in the form of exams. Exams are not only impersonal but also raise the issue of pressure and exam anxiety. Year 2 – SATs – 7 years old. When it comes to Ye...
Engaging Students: The High school Drop Out | Science of Education '13

Science of Education '13. Engaging Students: The High school Drop Out. Rumberger and Lamb (2003) [1]. The most prominent factor in the majority of dropout cases is the amount of student engagement (Finn, 1989) [3]. By this ‘engagement’ Finn meant the amount of participation the said student had had in school activities. Rumberger and Larson (1998) [4]. And Roderick (1994) [7]. Along with Rumerberger’s (2004) [8]. There are official interventions in place for schools to use. One of the support devices...

Science of Education '13. Sex Education: The Dreaded Lesson. Everyone has more than likely had that awkward lesson in school where a teacher comes and tries to talk to an adolescent you about sexual intercourse. To this day it was one of the most disconcerting experiences I had whilst at Secondary School and still have to stifle a laugh when someone says penis. But would it have been any better if it had been peer led? Would I have asked more questions? This was in regards to topics or subjects that were...

Science of Education 2013/14. Blog 6 is now History. Another week – and I can’t believe that I didn’t write anything to you last week – but I will make amends and write this week. The overall quality of your work just gets better and better. As the semester goes on, your work becomes more in-depth and really gets at the meat of what we are examining. Posts that are of particular note this week are: Bethan. Congratulations to all (15) of you for a job well done. This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

Science of Education 2013/14. Thursday – but done. Your grades are up, and you have done well again. I think there are a number of comments awaiting moderation, because there are a number of you who have done four comments, and I would have expected five. Send me an e-mail if you think you have been effected with your five comments (usually indicated by a grade). The blogs that impressed me this week are: Caroline’s. Have a look and see what you think. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. We had our f...

Newer posts →. Applying Motivation Theory to PNP 3002. December 16, 2013. I picked this Module on the basis of 60% (approx.) of our marking will be through Blogging. I have never been a person to simply memorise a load of information to regurgitate it during an hour-long exam, just to forget it all the day after. Seems a bit pointless right? Overall, I have enjoyed the blogging and even doing the speeches in PNP 3002, althought the classes lacked discussion I feel they have improved my oral presentation ...

Monthly Archives: November 2013. An Hour a Day, Keeps the Bad Grades Away! November 29, 2013. Gordon’s Model of Physical Education. Yes, you heard it here first. In Blog 4 I applied the popular Self-Determination Theory (SDT) (Deci and Ryan, 2000) to physical education, specifically the Within Basic Psychological Needs Theory, a sub-theory of SDT. The blog talks about various changes I would make to the current education system. Blogs I’ve referenced:. Bartholomew, K., Ntoumanis, N., Ryan, R....Castelli,...

Science of Education 2013/14. The Scholarship of Learning. After having read all your synthesis blogs and comments, I have decided that I’m going to skip all the preliminary blogs and go straight for the synthesis – they were great! Thanks for the brilliant semester. Make sure you come next Monday for our last session together, and bring suggestions for how we can improve the experience for future classes. End of Week 4 | Psychology in education
https://psychineducation.wordpress.com/2013/10/25/end-of-week-4
Science of Education 2013/14. End of Week 4. Busy week for me — sorry for not having your grades up yesterday. However, they are up today. What can I say? There were a number of you who did extremely well (the WOW factor), including Bethan. I would like to make extra mention of Bethan’s. Blog – first one, and it sets a new standard. In reading Naomi’s blog on academic competition, I wondered how you view this class. Is it more competitive or do you see this as a cooperative experience? October 25, 2013.

April 29, 2012. Psychologists, especially those who were published in 2008, are going feel a little on edge as a group of motivated researchers come for them this year. Open Science Framework, a group concerned with scientific values, have had enough of talking about the fraud amongst published results and have decided to spring into action with The Reproducibility Project. In 2008. Basically, these chaps want to see how much of what gets published is actually just a load of balderdash. March 25, 2012.

Just another WordPress.com site. The Importance of Understanding The Historical Context When Reviewing Data. An example of how the norms change over time can be conveyed through looking at how the perception and legalities of homosexuality have transformed over 6 decades, especially in the military. This links to research as the data then may no longer seem so bias toward a variable or have an extreme bias to a variable in comparison to how the social norms affected the way in which the data was interpre...
