Psucd2's psychology blog. Skip to primary content. Correlation doesn’t mean causation. March 11, 2012. This can unfortunately happen in research, Kassel (2000) talks about how Parrot (1999) judges the study to have shown causation, in smoking causing stress, when actually it shows correlation. While correlation can imply causation (Gardner, 2000) that doesn’t mean that it is causation as the factors could have a common link between them which produces the effect. Stats and stuff, but usually with a task-twist. Got to say I’m really impressed with the blogs. Some excellent topics, many well written and argued; lovely stuff. Now then, there were two topics that kept creeping up that I want to share my thoughts on since they seemed rather well debated. 1: The file-drawer problem. 2: Writing in layman speech. The file-drawer problem; this seemed like a rather tetchy issue to say the least! Saying that, this is another point. I picked up a sense of ‘publishi...5: Wait...

Excel, VBA, Dashboard, Excel Dashboard. Monday, 12 August 2013. I would like to demonstrate how the well known Excel function VLOOKUP can fail. Let's assume that we are looking for the value 21.01 in column C and that we want to return the value in column D. I have created a dropdown list to be sure that the value I am picking up is exactly like the one that is in column C and I have entered my VLOOKUP function to get the letter in column D. VLOOKUP(C12,$C$3:$D$8,2,0). Surprisingly, VLOOKUP returns #N/A.
