The Rorschach: a valuable diagnostic tool? | psuedb

https://psuedb.wordpress.com/2011/11/18/the-rorschach-a-valuable-diagnostic-tool-2

Just another WordPress.com site. The Rorschach: a valuable diagnostic tool? Despite being the most universally used psychologically projective test of the 60’s, the Rorschach test is now considered by many Psychologists to be unreliable, invalid and misleading, and had been replaced by more scientific measures such as MMPI-2. It is important that tests are assessed for reliability and validity, as according to APA ethical guidelines the test should not be used if it is obsolete or outdated.

Reductionism VS Holism | psuedb

https://psuedb.wordpress.com/2011/10/07/reductionism-vs-holism

Just another WordPress.com site. Like the Idiographic/Nomothetic debate featured in my previous weeks’ blog, Reductionism and Holism represent yet another conflict within Psychological research. Equally, offering a simple explanation is useful to scientists as it allows them to isolate variables; this facilitates scientific testing and possibly permits us to infer cause and effect in behaviour. The opposing approach is that of Holism, which places emphasis on the individual as a whole rather than reducin...

Is homosexuality heritable? | psuedb

https://psuedb.wordpress.com/2012/02/04/is-homosexuality-heritable

Just another WordPress.com site. In order to test this, evidence would have to be provided that male homosexuality is transmitted through the female blood line as a sex-linked trait; it would also have to be established that the gene increased the reproductive accomplishment of the female carriers. Concludingly, much empricial evidence now implicates the role of the X-chromosome in male homosexuality, but the exact genes have not yet been identified. This provides support for the nature aspect of t n...

Psilocybin Mushrooms | psuedb

Just another WordPress.com site. In a series of blogs, I intend to discuss the legality, effects, possible uses in psychology, and psychological research on the Psilocybin mushroom. The following blog is a brief introduction to the following series. Although currently illegal, (UKMisuse of Drugs Act 1971 and Drugs Act 2005) in a study conducted by the independent scientific committee on drugs (2011) psilocybin mushrooms have been rated as the least detrimental or dangerous recreational drug in the united...

Just another WordPress.com site. Thanks for dropping by bellaistoocool! Take a look around and grab the RSS feed. To stay updated. See you around! Mdash; 2 Comments. October 19, 2011. Had to go off the topic of research methods and discuss something which I think is actually interesting… thank the Lord. Anorexia Nervosa is something I’m fascinated by, but from what deep roots does anorexia stem from? Although, how would you be able to test this theory. October 27, 2011 at 5:41 pm. Weeks 7&8 | Andrei's Research Methods Blog

https://prpas.wordpress.com/2012/03/20/weeks-78

Andrei's Research Methods Blog. Regarding your third submission of blog entries and comments for this semester, I am happy to say that the majority of you are clearly moving in the right direction. Your marks also show it. The principle of using scientific evidence every time you are trying to build an argument is easily noticeable in your blogs, and that is wonderful to see/read. Never abandon this practice throughout the rest of your degree. March 20, 2012. Laquo; Weeks 4 & 5. And keep working at it!

Just another WordPress.com site. Skip to primary content. February 5, 2012. Help others who are in need. How often do we hear this term in our junior school? When we were little, we would spontaneously agree every time we hear this. However, do our mindsets change when we grew up? Is this really applicable in the real world? Bryan and Test conducted an experiment regarding this issue. The experimenter intentionally dropped a folder with papers in the public. In a place with very few people were p...Bryan...

Just another WordPress.com site. Evaluating studies investigating Token Economy Programmes. In this week’s blog, I am going to focus on the evaluative points of studies investigating Token Economy Programmes (TEP’s) , therefore I will only briefly explain what TEP’s are. Feel free to comment if you find any studies which go against these points. I am interested if finding studies finding positive reliable results, from other institutions. Are twin studies the best way to study Schizophrenia? Oct 22, 2011.

Addiction | bluenose1884

https://bluenose1884.wordpress.com/2012/03/04/addiction

Just another WordPress.com site. The factors involved in substance abuse are overwhelming and I’d wager that the vast majority of people have a vice. Whether its tobacco, alcohol and caffeine or the more socially unacceptable drugs. I’d also wager that the vast majority of people aren’t addicts; I’d bet my house on that one. So why is it that some people get addicted and others don’t? It’s a common assumption that increased social deprivation and increased levels of substance abuse go hand in hand. Educa...

Just another WordPress.com site. The Ethics of Milgram’s Obedience Study. 8220;Those who know the least obey the best…” – George Farquhar. The British Psychological Society dictates that all research experiments conducted in the name of psychology must be ethical. So does the American Psychological Society, and a number of other professional bodies. But what of research conducted before this requirement was set in stone? Subject experiencing this would automatically render the experiment unethical. Howev...

Just another WordPress.com site. November 17, 2011. My views on reductionism. Reductionism is an approach that explains human behaviour and mind by reducing the whole down to the various composing parts. Reductionism can occur in certain types of research methods in psychology such as laboratory experiments. Lab experiments are a controlled way of studying behaviour and can seen to be reductionist as they are seen to lay the cause of behaviour down to two variables. A case of multiple personality. The Jo...
