Torben's Tree House: Farm fresh eggs

Torben is the Danish derivative of the Norwegian Torbjörn and means Tor’s (Thor) bear. Tor is the god of thunder in Norse mythology. When we named Torben we wanted a Norwegian name, but also wanted something pronounceable by English speakers. We liked Torbjörn but decided that the Danish derivative would be easier to pronounce so we went with Torben. Wednesday, October 07, 2009. Posted by Cecilie @ 9:53 PM. Out of the mouths of babes. Solveig is derived from the Old Norse elements sól "sun" and veig "strength". Solveig is a central character in the play Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen and she sings the famous "Solveig's Song." Cecilie had been thinking about the name Solveig when Mike approached her with the same name. Mike had listened to Ibsen's "Solveig's Song" on the train ride home and felt that this would be the perfect Norwegian name if we had a girl. Sunday, November 05, 2006.
