Questioning Autism

Wednesday, July 11, 2012. On Test Scores and Attempts at Intervention. I received a letter from our school district's Executive Director of Instruction. Here's the opening paragraph. Hmmm "With both administrations.for both test administrations"? My child's "areas of most weakness"? A]ddress those in a focused manner"? Oh, good. I would hate for them to waste his time in an unfocused manner. Methinks Madam Executive Director could use a little English 101 tutoring. Not sure at all. 1 Jack's OAA reading s...

Questioning Autism: February 2012

http://questioningautism.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 4, 2012. I hope you can read this. Click on the picture to bring up a larger version. Found this posted on FB and have not been able to verify it, but how completely cool that a performance might elicit this sort of response from a locked-in child? If this is true, I'll bet his parents are wigging out trying to leverage this into some sort of therapy! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Enter your email address:. Welcome to Questioning Autism. Questioning Autism: October 2010

http://questioningautism.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Riding the bus. I always thought riding the bus to school was fun. I missed it when, in seventh grade, I transferred to a private school that didn't have bussing. Who would have thought I'd be so concerned about my own boys riding the bus? Yet Nick had issues on the bus, particularly in second grade. He was bullied and picked on, and he is, shall we say,. The bullies kept at him. Our school has transported him on the "special" bus, which has an aide on board to help with the ...

Questioning Autism: Letting Kids Be Who They Are

http://questioningautism.blogspot.com/2011/08/letting-kids-be-who-they-are.html

Saturday, August 20, 2011. Letting Kids Be Who They Are. This year, however, I found myself confronted with a negative judgment on another mommy, one I just can't get over. Nick asked why we couldn't invite one of Jack's friends, let's call him Bill, who had come for a playdate over the winter. Bill's mom had stayed for the playdate because Bill is more severely autistic than Jack, and she and I both wanted her to be here. She was perfectly pleasant and chatty. Whatever made me think she wasn't. Jack's i...

Questioning Autism: September 2010

http://questioningautism.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 2, 2010. Jack's first week of school was wonderful but, not surprisingly, he's showing some signs of stress. In the regular class, he has started asking for "quiet time" in the day, and they give him a two-minute break to read a book without having to pay attention to the teacher or interact in the class. Have I mentioned lately how much I love this school district? Well, I do! This BROKE MY HEART! What signs of social awareness have you seen in your child with autism? Including the b...

Questioning Autism: March 2011

http://questioningautism.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 17, 2011. Yes, I'm Still Here. There has been a lot going on lately (mostly quite good), and I need to process and share. Writing about it will help me process, so hopefully you'll see more posts in the near future. In the meantime, I have two things for you: a link and a question. I had a blog reader share a wonderful link with me. I'd not heard of Roses for Autism. But what a wonderful organization doing good work. Have you put your child with autism on attention medication?

Saturday, December 29, 2012. The Power of Death. On this day 85 years ago, my father was born. For the past 19.5 years, he has been gone. So, happy 85th Birthday, Daddy. You are missed today. Monday, September 29, 2014. When school hits, the world stops in this house apparently. Poor little blog. A new year started for everyone. Ignatius begins year 13 of his schooling. A senior. Max started year 5 of his schooling. A fourth grader. I started year 24 of teaching. Currently, I spend my day with fourth graders for the seventh year in a row (I think that's a record for me). So there you have it. Onward to October! Max has yet to decide on a Halloween outfit. That's always fun! Look for us on FB.

Monday, January 21, 2013. Serotonin Power Diet, Phase 2. We also get to add a small amount of protein back into our dinner. Tonight: chicken tacos! I get 2 ounces of meat, and Scot gets 4 ounces. I am getting about 3-4 workouts in during the week. I am trying to mix cardio and weight training as much as I can. That seems to be working well. So, good news from here! I am off to make egg white omelets for lunch. Scott is home sick with a cold, and we are all off enjoying MLK's birthday. Scott insists he fe...

On the subject, but I've changed inks quite a bit since then. Words, Words, Words. Saturday, June 6, 2015. Today, I am grateful for those brave men who, 71 years ago today, landed on beaches in France. May we never forget their sacrifice, bravery, and determination. Today, I am grateful that it's summer break. We need it. Today, I am grateful my son got his learner's permit. At least, I'm trying to be grateful and not scared silly. Today, I am grateful for this wonderful pin from Pinterest.because it makes me feel so much better about myself since I've been a.

The following blog contains the musings of "post Hoke ergo propter Hoke," a queer feminist Divinity School student studying New Testament and gender criticism. The Questioning Christian

By D C. Toedt. TWO RULES for a successful life (adapted from Mark 12.28-34):. 1 If you can't love God, then at least face the facts - don't try to live in a world of wishful thinking; and. 2 If you can't love your neighbor, then at least seek the best for them as for yourself - if nothing else, it makes good evolutionary sense. November 12, 2016. Suggested reading: Bibles and other religion books. A reader sent me an email this week, excerpted below:. Extra paragraphing added.). The New International Ver...
