quilting at balmoral cottage

Quilting at balmoral cottage. Sunday, March 22, 2015. I've been taking some courses at college, so last week my eyes were looking at books and not fabric. By Friday night, the paper had been written and the midterm taken so I rewarded myself with a little sewing! In fact it has turned into a bit of a buffet! The first thing I did was finish off this feather pillow. The bright colours give me a lift, reminding me that summer is just around the corner! Lastly, I'm including a quilt that I made last fall fo...

quilting at balmoral cottage: Round Robin

http://quiltingatbalmoralcottage.blogspot.com/2014/07/round-robin.html

Quilting at balmoral cottage. Sunday, July 20, 2014. This spring, Three friends and I embarked on a "Round Robin" adventure! This week, we all got together to reveal the results! We all supplied a centre block which was then passed around to the other three to be added on. My block, actually four "Road to Kansas" block, was inspired by an antique string quilt I saw in Gwen Marston"s book, "Liberated String Quilts" It was quite large, approximately 28" square. I am so pleased with my finished quilt! I am ...

quilting at balmoral cottage: January 2015

http://quiltingatbalmoralcottage.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Quilting at balmoral cottage. Wednesday, January 14, 2015. In October, the London Friendship Quilters Guild held their biannual quilt show "Road to Friendships". Our new venue had a lot more space to display our members' beautiful quilts. Jacqui brought her collection of antique sewing machines and demonstrated how they work. It was a real treat that was enjoyed by the many visitors to the show. This is "Road to Kansas with Friends". My mum is posing in front! Each month for 8 months we had to bring in 2...

Quilting at balmoral cottage. Friday, May 02, 2014. Threads of Memory, some finishes, and a Stash Report. This year I decided to participate in Barbara Brackman's Civil War Block of the Month "Threads of Memory ". In addition to making the blocks, I am especially enjoying the stories behind the blocks. Barbara posts a new block on the last Saturday of each month. So far, I have completed three, all made out of stash! The first block is called the "Portsmouth Star". The third block is the "New Garden Star".

Eagles' Wings Quilts: On my Needles, July 31, 2015

http://eagleswingsquilts.blogspot.com/2015/07/on-my-needles-july-31-2015.html

Friday, 31 July 2015. On my Needles, July 31, 2015. It has been ages since I did a post about knitting. Mostly because it's been ages since I did any knitting. However, while we were on vacation, I decided I needed something different to do, rather than continuing to work on La Passacaglia. While I dithered about whether to make it, or not. I finally purchased that pattern, and also one for a Cowl called That Nice Stitch. 1 August 2015 at 00:40. I went back to see what Judys looked like, and yes, that is...

Eagles' Wings Quilts: Christine's Organic Pinwheels

http://eagleswingsquilts.blogspot.com/2015/08/christines-organic-pinwheels.html

Wednesday, 5 August 2015. This is the first of three quilts that Christine brought me way back at the beginning of May. As usual, I'm behind on getting these documented. Each one of her quilts was unique so I think each one deserves its own post. This quilt used some organic cottons from Birch Fabrics. I love the colour combination, a lovely gender neutral palette. I quilted it using wavy cross hatching, called to the smallest square. Labels: Customer quilts 2015. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

http://eagleswingsquilts.blogspot.com/2015/08/christines-stacked-bricks.html

Thursday, 6 August 2015. This is the second of Christine's quilts. I'm not sure what the official name of the pattern is, but I'm calling it Stacked Bricks. She's used more of that wonderful neutral colour palette in this one. I quilted it with a free hand loop de loop design. Labels: Customer quilts 2015. Eagles' Wings Quilts: Back to Work

http://eagleswingsquilts.blogspot.com/2015/07/back-to-work.html

Tuesday, 28 July 2015. This last one required the purchase and download of a new pantograph from Digitech Designs. The last part of yesterday afternoon was spent drawing it up. I love looking through that web site at all the different designs. It can be quite the time gobbler. This is the design we decided on. It's called Nutz and Boltz. It's going on this quilt with the fun tools fabrics. I have one pass of the design done, so this is a bit of a sneak peak. 28 July 2015 at 15:43. 28 July 2015 at 16:23.

Quilting as a Second Language

Quilting as a Second Language. Tuesday, August 21, 2012. A Halloween quilt is JUST what I've been looking for! It's boring to read about why someone hasn't blogged in ages. I mean, just blog already, right? So I will. Once I've gotten back in the swing of things I'll write a little about the life changes around here in the last 3 months. Suffice to say I have LOTS of time to quilt these days :/. But enough of the boring.have you ever done a Halloween quilt? OMG how does she think that stuff up? I know I'...

Quilting As Desired

Monday, June 18, 2012. Red White Blue and Christmas. A few weeks ago I showed my design wall with a mixed up bunch of red, white, and blue blocks. This is what I came up with. I'll donate this to Quilts of Valor next week. The backing idea came from / http:/ www.maryquilts.com/off-center-4-patch-backing/. The backing and border fabric was given to me, but the patches and squares for the top were leftovers just waiting to be used. And of course I quilted my favorite swirls. Another Log Cabin for Jean.

What I am doing today through quilting. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. June 21, 2015. This is Boo. She was the much loved little dog to Shirlee Betty, a co-worker of Rich in Los Angeles. Shirlee ask me to do this art quilt of Boo as a birthday present to her husband. I sure hope he likes it. She really loved it. It was fun doing this. I felt like I almost knew her after spending almost three months making her coat, ears, eyes, month and nose. She had to have been loved so much. So wh...

Quilting Among the Groves

Quilting Among the Groves. Friday, August 7, 2015. Wow, I can't believe I just admitted that. I quickly put my name into the sign ups. One bite at a time. So I decided to create a grid over the drawing to break it into smaller more manageable parts. This worked well, but may have created some unnecessary seam lines. I wish I could better describe the process I took, but struggle to put my thoughts into words. Instead, here are pictures to show the girl coming together. Sandy gets some arms. I had some st...
