Language, Linguistics, music, history, God, and the relationship between them. From http:/ walkinthewords.blogspot.co.uk/2008/11/diagramming-sentences-syntactic-tree.html. And my research focussed on double object constructions in modern English, showing that many analyses of the phenomena are theoretically problematic and empirically unjustified. I argued that neither of the two objects in a DOC is more object-like than the other, at least in DOCs involving verbs that pattern semantically like. Reflecti...

Feeling like a girl…. Best Men’s Speeches →. Mad Hats and Obeying. April 30, 2011. Have to say I loved watching the Royal Wedding yesterday. Beautiful dress, happy couple and a wonderful occasion. Also lots of mad hats and fascinators to comment on who could ask for more? I did, in fact, choose to say ‘obey’ in my wedding vows, not because I’m a 1950s doormat but because it was the form of vows which were closest, though not brilliantly translated, to Ephesians 5. For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Then t...

Travel and other musings. One of my major passions is cricket; any cricket! It’s a shame that i’m not a very good player! I try to get to at least one day of international cricket each summer, and to the odd county game too. As a Yorkshireman, my allegiance is obvious, but I have an huge soft-spot for Worcestershire – New Road is the most beautiful ground and always has a wonderful atmosphere. It’s well worth a visit. Travel and other musings. I like to travel, but I’m not really the back-packing sort. This maybe why I still haven’t been to South America, which is something I really want to do. My last major trips have been cruises, which I enjoy since I have a rather short attention span, so being somewhere different everyday, whilst being wonderfully looked after, is very appealing to me. Me at Ny Alesund (79 degrees North). Since then, I’ve made numerous trips. My recent Scottish. Torre Delle Stelle, Cagliari.
