Time, energy and efforts are waning, but when we step back and see how far we have come, it is amazing, isn't it? On a side note, the neighbors who we jointly ordered our chicks with had a surprise gift from one of their hens -an egg! A suburban New York family tackles raising backyard hens. Thursday, April 24, 2008. 5 Starting the walls. Slowly the walls are being put together. The frame on the ground is the back wall with a cutout hatch for easier coop clean up, and the front one is on top of the foundation with cutouts of our huge found windows and the chicken hatch. This past Sunday we set to work on the inside of the coop -putting in insulation and plywood, and a much needed new roost. Aside from a normal slowdown in egg production from the girls due to the decreased light this past month, so far so good! Well the time came for the birds to go on their happy way to a new home as we have moved out of out lovely NY house. So sad to see them go!
