Every Fibre of My Being. When 140 characters just won't do. Newer posts →. We always think there’ll be more time. Well, I do. I don’t really know about you. But I assume, incorrectly most often, that I will see a friend again, have a chance to express my love more adequately, catch up on what’s going on in her life. And I let time slip by, and I don’t. I lost a dear one yesterday. Suddenly and unexpectedly and … but these things happen, and I should have known better. And then there were none. I thought ...

Every Fibre of My Being. When 140 characters just won't do. Well Where have *you* been? The story of my life slipped a bit into flashes of Tweets, Instagrams and Facebook posts over the past several months. I have looked at WordPress. I have thought about writing a blog post. I have walked away each time. Too much work? Not really. Too much about me to send out into the world — at least in those moments? Factors contributing to my reticence. It continues, diminishing perhaps, but continues. After recover...

Every Fibre of My Being. When 140 characters just won't do. I take a lot of pictures. If you follow me on social media at all, you have probably noticed that. Every Fibre of My Being. When 140 characters just won't do. Woad betide, part the first. Well Where have *you* been? I am not supposed to be knitting. My fingers, hands and arms remind me of this dreary fact in the middle of the night, every night, and have done so for months, by waking me with either their acute numbness or their excruciating painfulness. Or, even more delightfully, both. /sarcasm. Despite doctor’s orders, I have (slowly) been knitting. I am in the midst of two. She came into our lives ...

Practical Katie: September 2011
http://practicalkatie.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 01, 2011. First Day of School. Yesterday was the first day of school for the Class of 2015. I took a minute to jot down my impressions of my six freshman advisees and I guess advising in general. And yes, some of them are contradictory. 1 This is the first group I've ever had who weren't afraid to email a professor or go ask questions at the Advising Fair. What a huge advantage to already know they need help and can ask for it. Answer: Thursday in the online schedule. I love their une...

Thursday, February 03, 2011. Video with an iphone app. I took pictures with my iphone as I went through my day last Tuesday of Rush Rhees and Carlson Libraries. Using a free app, animoto, I created this fun "video". Library Day In the Life. I had every intention of writing at least one blog post for the Library Day In The Life Project but ran out of time. I even had a fantasy at the beginning of the week that I could keep track of what I did all day. Ha Ha! Over a week, I have staff vent anger at me....

Practical Katie: October 2010

Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Waiting for the Mail is Old School. And text their friends. They almost never GET mail so they almost never go and check their CPU boxes. As one student told me, they're mostly filled with chinese take-out menus. So why does the University still send *important* notifications in print to CPU boxes? As an adviser, I get copied in on these official letters. I immediately scan the letter and resend it by email with a follow-up on facebook. On more than one occasion. Lights on ti...
