Our reading adventure!

Thursday, February 17, 2005. Been a while again. Since I posted. We now are the proud owners of the entire Jolly Phonics package! Well, it was going so well I think it's money well spent. Posted by Kirsty at 11:02 AM. Saturday, January 01, 2005. We sat for ages on the couch today telling made up stories, which was quite fun. I don't think we've ever done it before. I'm sure I can include it here as it's about foundations of a story and stuff isn't it? Roots round for more reading related stuff*. So we're...

Our reading adventure!: finger phonics

http://readingadventure.blogspot.com/2004/12/finger-phonics.html

Thursday, December 09, 2004. The Finger Phonics books arrived today and look pretty much like I was expecting. Marcus had a quick flick through them and traced most of the letters in them. He also looked at the activity page at the back of book 1 and said out every sound and matched it to the completely wrong picture! Maybe he just wasn't trying hard enough, but he definitely needs more practise with it. Posted by Kirsty at 10:58 PM. Been doing some more practising of letter sounds l.

Our reading adventure!: yesterday

http://readingadventure.blogspot.com/2004/12/yesterday.html

Saturday, December 11, 2004. We looked at the FP books more in the car and at what was in the pictures, they really like them even though they are simple board books. They like tracing their fingers on the letter and I think that will be usefull for Ale in refining her motor skills as she isn't there yet with it all. Posted by Kirsty at 10:43 AM. Been doing some more practising of letter sounds l. Workbooks and car games.

Our reading adventure!: More tricky words

http://readingadventure.blogspot.com/2004/12/more-tricky-words.html

Wednesday, December 22, 2004. Joyce kindly sent me a list of the first 30 tricky words in the Jolly Phonics scheme so I'll put them here in case anyone else finds them useful:. So today I've made up laminated flashcards with them all on, put them in order and we'll try and do a couple a week. He also spent some time on the computer typing out the names of his friends and we discussed how some names were shorter than others and had less letters in them. Posted by Kirsty at 2:00 PM. Workbooks and car games.

Our reading adventure!: November 2004

http://readingadventure.blogspot.com/2004_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, November 25, 2004. Not done much today wrt reading and writing. Nothing formal anyway. Marcus spent a little bit of this morning on his alphabet desk thing (hmm, not going to be able to chuck it out without him knowing am I? He likes doing the remembering game so I guess it's not really to do with learning to read but I suppose some of it might be sticking so when it comes to learning the letter names he might remember them. Our reading adventure!: Wall frieze

http://readingadventure.blogspot.com/2004/12/wall-frieze.html

Sunday, December 12, 2004. I managed to relocate the Jolly Phonics Wall Frieze we got last year into the dining room yesterday. Looks quite good, but there was no room to have it as a poster so I have stuck it round like a border. It has all of the 42 sounds on it and we've found it really useful since we started using JP just because it relates to the videos well. He's getting really good at writing his name and he even wrote Alex today too when he drew a picture for her :o). Posted by Kirsty at 7:19 PM.

Home Educating the Bartholomews: December 2003

http://bartholomew-home-ed.blogspot.com/2003_12_01_archive.html

Home Educating the Bartholomews. Tuesday, December 30, 2003. We're still not doing much apart from lounging around lately so nothing much to write about but I thought I'd post a picture of Alex with her new fabric calendar she got from my mum for Crimbo. Hopefully it will be a nice introduction to the days of the week for the kids. Posted by Kirsty at 12/30/2003 02:20:00 pm. Monday, December 29, 2003. Posted by Kirsty at 12/29/2003 11:47:00 am. http://bartholomew-home-ed.blogspot.com/2005/08/yesterday-was-quite-good-day.html

Home Educating the Bartholomews. Monday, August 15, 2005. Yesterday was quite a good day. We went out to Doncaster Country Fair and had a great time watching dancing sheep, looking at vintage cars, birds of prey and horses. Marcus had a go in an army truck and they both had fun learning circus skills too :o). They watched National Treasure when we got home and then I started to feel really unwell so James took over the bedtime routine so I could chill out in the bedroom. Also appears my kids are the only...

Home Educating the Bartholomews: September 2003

http://bartholomew-home-ed.blogspot.com/2003_09_01_archive.html

Home Educating the Bartholomews. Tuesday, September 30, 2003. Glad to say I'm much better today although Marcus is complaining of a sore tummy still so I'll have to keep an eye on him. Today we went to playgroup in the afternoon and had a lovely time. Alex found some cornflour gloop and made a right mess with it! Spent the evening at Nana's where Marcus, once he got out of a post-nap bad mood, spent absolutely ages drawing. He discovered that there were some new crayons and was very pleased. I think I'm ...

Home Educating the Bartholomews. Monday, June 30, 2003. Yucky rainy day today so we're spending it at my mums where we look after her dogs. I wish they actually wanted to come and see the kids and I could get them more into looking after the dogs but sadly they prefer to stay in the kitchen! Maybe when Alex is a bit older we'll be able to take them for small walks. I think for now though I'm going to get Marcus and Alex to help putting the food down for the dogs. One step at a time eh? We arrived on the ...

Home Educating the Bartholomews. Friday, August 12, 2005. So, in honour of my 500th. You Are 30% Weird. Not enough to scare other people. But sometimes you scare yourself. How Weird Are You? How many times have I said I scare myself? Anyway, will try to update soon although will probably not be too interesting. Have got myself into a bit of a rut with bad moods and resulting bad behaviour from the kids lately. Must try a little harder. Posted by Kirsty at 8/12/2005 11:01:00 pm. Make your own badge here.

Home Educating the Bartholomews. Sunday, November 30, 2003. OMG - got a weird feeling. Just checking out our councils website looking for a link I used to have with details of playgroups and preschools when I found this: Building Blocks Montessori. I'm going to phone them first thing tomorrow to enquire if they have any places and to have a look. Fingers crossed! Posted by Kirsty at 11/30/2003 08:07:00 pm. Home Educating the Bartholomews. Saturday, August 13, 2005. Had a productive day today :o) Nothing to do with education at all though, it is Saturday after all! Decided this morning to tidy my desk which was just becoming an absolute nightmare and after I'd done that I took up all the paperwork that was laying around and actually FILED it all! And no, not under "b" for bin! Have managed to keep kitchen clean today too. Am dead chuffed with myself. Posted by Kirsty at 8/13/2005 09:18:00 pm. We're home edu...
